Volkswagen Scirocco | First Drive (Part 2)

Volkswagen SCIROCCO | Volkswagen Scirocco Test Drive (Part 2)

A Car That Makes You Feel Driving is a Luxurious Mental Plaything

The "Scirocco," a two-door coupe revived by Volkswagen after 17 years. We test-drove the car, which features the latest power unit based on the downsizing concept.

Acceleration That Pushes You Forward

When comparing engines, some may prefer the sharp response of the 1.4-liter twin-charged engine. Indeed, its ample torque and sporty character, revving high, pair exceptionally well with the direct feel of the dual-clutch DSG gearbox, making it seem optimal for enjoying the drive. While I agree with this sentiment, the natural torque of the 2-liter engine is also hard to dismiss. Especially when exiting corners, it provides an acceleration that feels like a firm push from behind.

The interior, as is typical of German cars, is predominantly black, designed to convey a sense of quality. Black is a color that reveals subtle differences in tone and the precision of assembly. Therefore, creating a high-quality interior solely in black signifies the highest level of craftsmanship. This is the German perspective on cars, and the Scirocco, true to form, allows you to appreciate the beauty of its form in black.

No Problem for Four Adults to Travel

The sporty bucket seats, with their emphasized undulating lines reminiscent of the Passat CC, are comfortable and pleasing. The 2.0 TSI features leather upholstery, while the TSI combines fabric with synthetic suede and Alcantara. The leather offers a rich texture, and the fabric provides a soft feel. Both have their own distinct merits.

The rear seats lack a sense of spaciousness due to the limited roof area. However, two well-supported adult seats are provided, making it perfectly suitable for four adults to travel. Because the roof is narrow, the designer has positioned the two seats close together, a technique that brings to mind the Volvo C30, but it serves as an effective solution.

The styling employs a modern approach that defines character through surfaces rather than lines. Therefore, to fully appreciate the Scirocco's beauty, choosing a metallic paint finish that accentuates the subtle nuances of its surfaces would be ideal.

Luxurious cars like the Scirocco are not strictly necessary for society. However, I believe they are essential for individuals to lead fulfilling spiritual lives. This is a car that makes you feel driving is a luxurious mental pursuit.
