ECO + Sport!
This year, starting from theDetroit Motor Showto theGeneva Show,Auto China (Beijing),Paris Auto Salon, I attended various auto shows. During this time, I also participated in international test drives and factory tours for various manufacturers. The McLaren and Bentley factories were particularly impressive.
Based on these experiences, I felt the vitality of European manufacturers, especially those from Germany. Audi's popularity is immense, and Volkswagen is making its presence felt with the 'up!'. The full model change of the Porsche 911 was also a major topic.
However, British cars are not to be outdone. The McLaren MP4-12C, released by McLaren, was quickly praised by European automotive magazines as the most user-friendly supercar. French and Italian manufacturers were subdued, likely affected by the European economic crisis. This is understandable when major markets like Spain and Portugal are facing potential economic collapse.
But Japanese manufacturers seem even less energetic. Even when visiting their booths at auto shows, the atmosphere felt somewhat subdued. Although some good cars were announced, there was a lack of vibrancy. However, amidst this, the Toyota GT86 (European name) became a talking point. I received several questions about its specifications from foreign motor journalists and European manufacturer staff. It seems this industry is indeed driven by sports car enthusiasts.
Therefore, the achievements of German manufacturers stand out this year. Their technology is undoubtedly leading the automotive industry. Personally, I am drawn to the 'ECO + Sport' concept. Their philosophy that a car is not truly a car if it's not fun to drive, no matter how much you emphasize ECO, resonates with me. Perhaps we should look to European manufacturers for this kind of sensibility. It's an approach that Japanese manufacturers, focused solely on fuel efficiency and turning cars into mere appliances, lack.

I consider it a design revolution.
It transcends the SUV category and creates a new genre. SUV designs will change from this point forward, and this car hints at that potential.
I have interviewed the designer,Gerry McGovernseveral times, and he is a highly design-conscious individual. This creation will undoubtedly be a commemorative piece for him.

This car changed my perception of diesel engines.
It's impressive to see what BMW can do with a diesel engine. The brand, which promotes the slogan 'Sheer Driving Pleasure,' has not only eliminated the sluggishness often associated with diesel but has also masterfully utilized the strong low-end torque. And the fact that it's fuel-efficient is the icing on the cake.
An outstanding achievement.

The 911 has evolved from the 997 to the 991 generation, with advancements that go beyond its appearance. I was particularly impressed by the inclusion of a coasting function. I had assumed such technology, which disengages the engine during high-speed cruising to allow for gliding, was exclusive to hybrid vehicles. To find it here was a surprise. In essence, alongside its performance, it incorporates sophisticated ECO measures. It truly embodies intelligence.

McLaren is finally making its mark. Unlike the McLaren F1 and Mercedes SLR of the past, the MP4-12C is a vehicle they developed entirely on their own. For motorsport enthusiasts, this alone makes it irresistible. Furthermore, its execution is completely distinct from Italian exotics, brimming with originality. Its styling and overall design are refreshingly unique, avoiding any imitation. It earns high marks for its originality. For those who dislike Italian cars, this is for you!

Among Bentley's lineup, this is a particularly enjoyable car to drive. The 507ps engine is undoubtedly monstrous, but it's more manageable than the W12, and the car's behavior offers excellent feedback. Plus, you can enjoy open-air motoring. While it's pleasant for leisurely drives around town, it can also be pushed on winding roads. And the interior craftsmanship – the coordination exuding British elegance is simply breathtaking.
