The "AIRCAP" Dramatically Enhances Open-Air Driving Comfort
Key features of the Mercedes-Benz New E-Class Cabriolet include its advanced aerodynamics, which significantly expand the possibilities for open-air driving. A newly developed "AIRCAP" system, featuring a movable wind deflector above the front windshield frame, lifts airflow over the vehicle's top to keep cabin air circulating. This, along with a movable draft stop between the rear headrests, minimizes wind turbulence.
Additionally, the "AIRSCARF" system, which blows warm air from vents in the headrests of both front and rear seats, has been adopted. Even on slightly chilly days, open-air driving offers significantly enhanced cabin comfort. Furthermore, the multi-layered soft top, with a thickness of 23.5mm, provides exceptional sound insulation, contributing to a quieter interior.
The design is beautifully elegant, captivating the eye. While incorporating design elements from the distinctive rear fender of the 1960s "Ponton Mercedes (W120)," it achieves a harmonious fusion of elegance and dynamism. With a choice of 12 body colors and 3 soft top colors, along with 8 interior color schemes—offered in both tone-on-tone and contrasting two-tone designs—and 3 types of interior wood trim, a wide array of color combinations is available.
High Body Rigidity Achieved Despite Cabriolet Design
In terms of safety, high body rigidity suppresses unpleasant vibrations, ensuring a comfortable ride and excellent handling stability. In addition to driver and front passenger airbags, front and rear side airbags, and SRS knee airbags, newly adopted SRS head and SRS pelvic airbags bring the total to 11 airbags, protecting occupants from various dangers.
Finally, environmental compatibility. The class-leading Cd value of 0.28 (European specification reference value) contributes to improved fuel efficiency. An energy-saving alternator that pauses operation when the battery is charged to 80% or more, and an ECO power steering pump that controls assist levels according to driving conditions, reduce drive loss from auxiliary equipment. Environmental compatibility is enhanced through BlueEFFICIENCY technologies, such as the aerodynamically superior body design and auxiliary equipment with reduced drive loss, which improve fuel efficiency.
The powertrain is exclusively a 3.5-liter V6 DOHC engine, paired with Mercedes' familiar electronically controlled 7-speed automatic transmission, the 7G-TRONIC. It has achieved the "75% Reduction Level of 2005 Exhaust Emissions Standards (★★★★ Low-Emission Vehicle)" certification from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and meets the 2010 Fuel Economy Standards, making it eligible for "New Car Purchase Subsidies for Scrapping Aged Vehicles (over 13 years old)." The manufacturer's suggested retail price is 8.98 million yen.
