Porsche's First Mass-Produced Hybrid Model Offered
This new model features the "Cayenne S Hybrid," Porsche's first mass-produced hybrid. Its system is a parallel full-hybrid, similar to the Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid.
The gasoline engine used in the hybrid system is a direct-injection 3.0-liter V6 supercharged engine (333 ps) found in the Audi S4. Combined with an electric motor (47 ps), it produces a maximum output of 380 ps and a maximum torque of 59.1 kgm.
At speeds up to 60 km/h, it can travel several kilometers on electric power alone. The European combined fuel economy is rated at 12.2 km/l, with CO2 emissions of 193 g/km.
Fuel Economy Improved by Up to 23% Over Predecessor
In addition to the hybrid, the lineup includes four other models: the "Cayenne Turbo" with a 4.8-liter V8 twin-turbo engine (500 ps), the "Cayenne S" with a naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V8 (400 ps), the "Cayenne" with a 3.6-liter V6 engine (300 ps), and the "Cayenne Diesel" for the European market with a 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel (240 ps). All models feature a newly developed 8-speed Tiptronic S, an idling stop function, an energy regeneration system, and a lightweight body structure, resulting in fuel economy improvements of up to 23% compared to the previous generation.
The exterior retains the image of the previous generation while incorporating new elements such as horizontally oriented taillights and redesigned headlamps. It achieves a sporty yet luxurious finish, characteristic of the Cayenne.
Orders for the new Cayenne, excluding the hybrid model, began in Japan on March 5th. Pricing starts at ¥7.48 million to ¥7.95 million for the base Cayenne, ¥10.3 million for the Cayenne S, and ¥15.38 million for the Cayenne Turbo. The start of orders and pricing for the Cayenne S Hybrid will be announced at a later date.
BRAND HISTORY
Porsche is a German sports car brand that commands overwhelming support from skilled drivers worldwide. Its origins trace back to 1931 when Ferdinand Porsche, a brilliant engineer who made his mark in his twenties, established "Porsche Design Studio" in Stuttgart, Germany, after serving as technical director at Daimler. He then began undertaking development projects for various car manufacturers. Among his most famous works is the "Volkswagen Beetle," which significantly contributed to motorization as Germany's "people's car."
The first car to bear his name as a manufacturer was the "356," introduced in 1948. Since then, Porsche has released sports cars such as the "911," "924," and "928," while also focusing on motorsport. For instance, they have achieved 16 victories in the grueling 24 Hours of Le Mans race and contributed to three series championships as an engine supplier in Formula 1, marking a brilliant racing history. It goes without saying that their technological prowess and dedication to driving performance live on in their products today.
Currently, Porsche boasts a popular lineup including the "911," which continues to be highly regarded as a top-tier sports car even 45 years after its debut; the open-top sports car "Boxster"; its coupe counterpart, the "Cayman"; and the premium sports SUV, the "Cayenne."
