A Body Approximately 40 Centimeters Longer Than a Standard MINI

The MINI Countryman is a crossover vehicle, marking the fourth body variation for the MINI brand.

With a body length of 4097mm, it is 397mm longer than a standard MINI, and its wheelbase is also 130mm longer at 2595mm. This ensures ample space for four adults to relax comfortably, with a luggage capacity of 350 liters in its normal configuration, expandable to 1170 liters by folding down the rear seats.

The exterior retains MINI's signature playful design aesthetic, while its taller profile and thicker bumper sections create a rugged, SUV-like image. The extended body also necessitated a move to six side windows, and changes such as the adoption of polygonal headlamps clearly distinguish it from the hatchback.

Inside, many of MINI's signature elements remain, including the large central speedometer. The "Center Rail" system, which runs between the front and rear seats, allows for the flexible positioning of cup holders and storage compartments.

A Total of Five Powertrain Options

The engines offered are shared with the MINI series, all with a displacement of 1.6 liters. There are three gasoline and two diesel options, totaling five powertrains. Each incorporates the "MINIMALISM" concept for reduced emissions, including brake energy regeneration, on-demand engine management, and an auto start-stop function with a shift-up indicator (for manual transmission models).

The top-tier gasoline engine is found in the "Cooper S." This 1.6-liter inline-4 twin-scroll turbo with direct injection and Valvetronic technology produces a maximum output of 184 ps at 5500 rpm and peak torque of 24.5 kgm at 1600 rpm. In overboost mode, maximum torque increases to 26.5 kgm. It achieves 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 215 km/h. Fuel economy in the European combined cycle is 15.87 km/l, with CO2 emissions at 146 g/km. Other gasoline models include the MINI Cooper Countryman with 122 ps and 16.3 kgm, and the MINI One Countryman with 98 ps and 15.6 kgm.

Debut on February 7, 2010

The top diesel model is the "Cooper D." This 1.6-liter inline-4 diesel is paired with a variable geometry turbocharger, delivering a maximum output of 112 ps at 4000 rpm and peak torque of 27.5 kgm at 1750 rpm. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 10.9 seconds, with a top speed of 180 km/h. Fuel economy in the European combined cycle is an impressive 22.73 km/l, with CO2 emissions at 116 g/km.

The "One D" is equipped with another diesel unit, a 1.6-liter inline-4 turbo diesel, producing 90 ps at 4000 rpm and 21.9 kgm of torque at 1750 rpm. While its 0-100 km/h acceleration of 13.2 seconds and top speed of 170 km/h are modest, it achieves an excellent European combined cycle fuel economy of 23.26 km/l, with CO2 emissions of 113 g/km.

The Cooper S comes standard with sports suspension. An optional "ALL4" all-wheel-drive system, which variably distributes power between the front and rear axles from a 50:50 to 0:100 split, is available for the Cooper S and Cooper D models (the basic drivetrain is front-wheel drive; suspension consists of MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear).

The MINI Countryman will make its public debut on February 7th, followed by releases in various countries worldwide. Its launch in Japan is eagerly anticipated.
