Full Open in 20 Seconds
Lexus, which is always keen to expand its lineup, introduced a series of models with a strong sense of personal enjoyment in 2009. One of these was the IS250C (from ¥4.95 million). Based on the IS chassis, this rear-wheel-drive car is powered by a 215-horsepower 2.5-liter V6 engine. It's a four-seater with an electric retractable metal roof, and its interior offers a rich combination of two-tone seats, stitching, and wood panels, making it a distinctive and playful choice.
While the IS250C boasts high functionality, accommodating four adults with the roof closed, it presents a beautiful silhouette when fully open in approximately 20 seconds. Full four-seater convertibles are popular overseas, and it's likely that older users in Japan would also look stylish driving this car. Conversely, with the roof closed, external noise is kept to an absolute minimum. Although there are many openings for the roof mechanism, Lexus has meticulously addressed sound insulation for each one.
Lexus's Signature Air Conditioning
Driving it, one gets a strong impression of mature sophistication, just as the developers intended. Although its weight is about 160kg more than the base IS250, the increased body mass contributes to a smoother, more refined ride. There's no body flex, the suspension is supple, and it handles bumps with minimal shock, demonstrating skillful tuning.
On winding mountain roads, there are moments when the power might feel a bit lacking, but overall, it drives well. In the city, its comfortable maneuverability, aided by its dimensions of 4635mm in length and just under 1800mm in width, makes it practical. On the highway, the relaxed ride quality is captivating. Furthermore, the air conditioning performance is superb; instead of localized blasts of hot or cold air, the cabin temperature gradually and evenly changes. It's a masterfully designed system, showcasing the unique excellence of Lexus.

BRAND HISTORY
Toyota launched its luxury brand LEXUS in the American market in 1989. The aim was to offer a new value proposition, distinct from established luxury cars from America and Germany, by leveraging Toyota's advanced technological prowess, superior quality, and exceptional customer service.
When the "LS400" (domestic name: Celsior) and "ES250" (domestic name: Camry) were introduced to the American market in September of that year, the LS400 quickly earned the title of Best Import Car by February 1990. Subsequently, Lexus's reputation continued to grow, and with the expansion of its lineup, it solidified its position as a luxury automotive brand.
Following its success in America, Lexus expanded into Europe in 2004 and announced its business development in Japan in May of the same year. In August 2005, it launched its luxury car business in its home market. Initially, the lineup consisted of the "GS" (successor to Toyota's Aristo), "SC" (successor to the Soarer), and "IS" (successor to the Altezza), lacking a flagship "LS." However, the introduction of the long-awaited new LS in September 2006, followed by its hybrid version, the "LS600h/LS600hL," in May 2007, met the expectations of the luxury sedan market.
Meanwhile, Lexus has been focusing on building a sporty image, announcing the sports model "IS F" in October 2007 and entering the Nürburgring 24 Hours race in May 2008 with the prototype sports coupe "LF-A." Further expansion of its popularity is anticipated.
