LEXUS LF-A
Competing in the Nürburgring 24 Hours with the LF-A Under Development
Lexuswill compete in the 37th Nürburgring 24 Hour Endurance Race, held from May 21st (Thursday) to 24th (Sunday) at the Nürburgring circuit in Rhineland, Germany, with the premium two-seater sports car "LF-A" currently under development.
LF-A Prototype Enhanced for Racing Performance
This marks the second consecutive year of participation, following 2008. The objective is to test and refine the development vehicle through the challenge of the grueling 24-hour endurance race, feeding the insights back into the development process. Furthermore, the team will utilize young mechanics as support staff, fostering their growth and development.
The race car is based on the LF-A prototype, which is being developed with commercialization in mind. Safety equipment for racing, such as a roll cage and fuel tank, along with aerodynamic parts like spoilers, have been added. While there are no major changes to the engine, drivetrain, or body structure, new tuning adjustments tailored to the course have been implemented to enhance its racing performance.

BRAND HISTORY
Toyota launched its luxury car brand LEXUS in the American market in 1989. The aim was to offer a new value proposition, distinct from established luxury cars from America and Germany, by leveraging Toyota's advanced technological prowess, superior quality, and exceptional customer service.
Upon the introduction of the "LS400" (domestic name: Celsior) and "ES250" (domestic name: Camry) to the American market in September of that year, the LS400 quickly earned the title of Best Import Car by February of the following year, 1990. Lexus's reputation continued to grow, solidifying its position as a luxury brand with an expanding lineup.
Following its success in America, Lexus expanded into Europe in 2004 and announced its business development in Japan in May of the same year. In August 2005, the brand launched its luxury car business in its home market. Initially, the lineup consisted of the "GS" (successor to Toyota's Aristo), "SC" (successor to the Soarer), and "IS" (successor to the Altezza), lacking a flagship LS model. However, the introduction of the all-new LS in September 2006, followed by its hybrid variant, the "LS600h/LS600hL," in May 2007, met the expectations of luxury saloon buyers.
Concurrently, Lexus has focused on cultivating a sporty image, unveiling the sports model "IS F" in October 2007 and entering the development version of the sports coupe "LF-A" in the Nürburgring 24 Hours race in May 2008. This strategic push is expected to further enhance its popularity.
