LEXUS LS460L
Lexus LS Variations Expand
In August 2008, new grades were added to Lexus' flagship "LS," making long-wheelbase models and 4WD specifications available for the "LS460," similar to the top-tier Lexus "LS600h/LS600hL."
The "LS460L," added to the 4.6-liter V8 engine-equipped "LS460," is a chauffeur-driven specification with an extended wheelbase of 120mm to improve rear-seat comfort. The rear seats offer a choice between a three-seater configuration and a more spacious two-seater "Rear Seat Separate Package." Furthermore, four-wheel-drive "LS460 AWD/LS460L AWD" models were also introduced, which will be particularly useful in cold regions.
Concurrently, specifications for all LS models were updated with enhanced equipment, expanded options, and new additions.
BRAND HISTORY
Toyota launched its luxury car brand LEXUS in the American market in 1989. The aim was to offer a new value proposition, distinct from American and German luxury cars, by leveraging Toyota's advanced technological prowess, superior quality, and exceptional customer service.
Upon the introduction of the "LS400" (Celsior in Japan) and "ES250" (Camry in Japan) to the American market in September of the same year, the LS400 quickly earned the title of Best Imported Car by February 1990. Lexus' reputation continued to grow, and with an expanding lineup, it solidified its position as a luxury automotive brand.
Following its success in America, Lexus expanded into Europe in 2004 and announced its entry into the Japanese market in May of that year. In August 2005, the brand commenced its luxury car business in its home country. Initially, the lineup lacked the flagship "LS," featuring only the "GS" (successor to Toyota's Aristo), "SC" (Soarer), and "IS" (successor to Toyota's Altezza). However, the long-awaited new LS was introduced in September 2006, followed by its hybrid version, the "LS600h/LS600hL," in May 2007, meeting the expectations of luxury sedan buyers.
Meanwhile, Lexus has been focusing on building its sports image, announcing the sports model "IS F" in October 2007 and entering the developing "LF-A" sports coupe in the Nürburgring 24 Hours race in May 2008, further enhancing its appeal and anticipating increased popularity.
