Bentley Continental Flying Spur Speed Announced

BritishBentleyhas announced a modified version of its four-door saloon, the "Continental Flying Spur," along with the addition of a high-performance model, the "Continental Flying Spur Speed."

The "Speed" Variant, Pursuing Velocity

The "Continental Flying Spur," derived from the "Continental GT," the first model of the reborn Bentley under Volkswagen, debuted in 2005. The 2009 model of this luxury four-door saloon, which claims to be the world's fastest, is equipped with a 6.0-liter W12 twin-turbo engine and has been announced in its home market.

While the cosmetic changes include the shape of the front grille, air intakes, and rear section, the biggest highlight is undoubtedly the arrival of the new "Continental Flying Spur Speed."

"Speed" is a name with a tradition dating back to 1923 at Bentley. As the name suggests, this is a model that pursues speed. The W12 unit, boosted by 50 hp to produce an output of 610 hp, accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds and achieves a top speed of 322 km/h.

The exterior is distinguished by a dark-tinted radiator and air intake grille, large-diameter, spiral-finished exhaust tailpipes, and 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, adding a unique flair to the Flying Spur Speed.

A new feature for both the Continental Flying Spur and Flying Spur Speed is the addition of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). A long-range radar sensor located in the front grille detects the distance to the vehicle ahead and automatically controls the brakes and accelerator when it determines the preceding vehicle is slower than the user's car, maintaining the set following distance.

The Naim premium audio system, exclusively designed for Bentley by the renowned British Hi-Fi manufacturer Naim, is available as an option. Passengers can enjoy high-quality sound within the cabin, kept serene by features such as acoustic glass.

BRAND HISTORY
"I want to build the fastest and most valuable car in its class." These are the words of Walter Owen Bentley, the founder of BENTLEY MOTORS, affectionately known as "W.O."

Although W.O. had gained experience as an engineer from a young age, his initial work involved steam locomotives rather than automobiles. During his spare time, he participated in motorcycle races, which gradually shifted his interest towards engines. After retiring, he began developing racing engines in earnest after World War I.

In the 1920s, he participated in races both in Britain and abroad. Notably, the "Bentley Boys" achieved five victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race between 1924 and 1930, establishing the brand's reputation. However, the company faced financial difficulties and was acquired by Rolls-Royce in 1931, barely managing to preserve its name.

Rolls-Royce's control continued for the next 67 years, but a turning point arrived in 1998. Volkswagen acquired the Bentley name and the Crewe factory in the UK. This allowed Bentley to forge a path separate from Rolls-Royce, and through the introduction of new models such as the "Continental GT," "Continental Flying Spur," and "Continental GTC," it successfully made a comeback in the luxury car market. Furthermore, in 2003, Bentley secured its sixth victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, its first in 73 years.
