Last November,Tokyo Motor Showatdisplayed as a concept car, andofficially announced in December, and this yearthe "M4 Coupe," for which reservations have been open since February. With the fifth generation, the base models became the "3 Series Sedan" and "4 Series Coupe", and the high-performance version was also renamed to "M3 Sedan" and "M4 Coupe." It is, in effect, the successor to the "M3 Coupe."
The engine is a newly developed 3-liter inline-6 twin-power turbo engine producing a maximum output of 317 kW (431 ps). By extensively using lightweight materials such as carbon and aluminum for the body and suspension, including a carbon fiber driveshaft, the weight is kept down to 1,497 kg. Despite being rear-wheel drive, it boasts a 0-100 km/h acceleration of just 4.1 seconds.
The venue for the first public showing of the M4 Coupe's production model in Japan will be Fuji Speedway on May 3rd (Saturday) and 4th (Sunday), during the SUPER GT second round, "FUJI GT 500km RACE." On the first day, the 3rd, the BMW booth will host the final Japanese qualifiers for the PlayStation®3 racing game"BMW Z4 Challenge" on "Gran Turismo 6", followed by the Asian finals where top players from seven Asian countries will compete. The winner will be invited to a circuit event in Istanbul in June, where they can experience driving the M4 Coupe on a track.
On the following day, the 4th, a demonstration run of the M4 Coupe will take place on the main course of Fuji Speedway before the SUPER GT final race.
With the SUPER GT, where the BMW Z4 GT, which achieved a 1-2 finish from the opening round, will compete; the game where participants vie for the same Z4 GT virtually; and the unveiling of the M4 Coupe, a production model embodying racing technology, the weekend at FSW promises to be a celebration of BMW's motorsport endeavors.
