Fuel Economy and Emissions Reduced by 30 Percent
Previously,Newly developed AMG 5.5-liter V8 engine with cylinder deactivationwas announced for the new "SLK 55 AMG." This engine achieves both top-tier performance and excellent fuel efficiency. It boasts a maximum output of 310kW (422hp) and peak torque of 540Nm. Environmental performance is also impressive, with fuel consumption of 8.4ℓ/100km and CO2 emissions of 195g/km, both approximately 30 percent lower than the previous generation. In terms of acceleration, it sprints from 0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h. The transmission is the electronically controlled 7-speed automatic "7G-TRONIC."
In terms of design, exclusive AMG features such as an AMG lip spoiler, AMG alloy wheels, and chrome-plated twin tailpipes have been added.
The interior features an IWC-designed analog clock, and the instrument cluster and displays are also AMG-specific. The AMG sports seats, upholstered in premium ARTICO synthetic leather, are embossed with emblems and include lateral support to reduce back strain on long drives. Additionally, the optional "AIRSCARF" system warms the occupants' neck and shoulders with warm air from vents in the headrests.
Magic Sky Control Standard, Offering Open-Air Feel Anytime
While the "Magic Sky Control" is an option on the base model, it comes standard on the SLK 55 AMG. This feature allows the roof's tint to be switched from transparent to dark with the press of a button. Even when closed, the roof allows light to filter in, providing an open-air driving sensation on cold days and blocking direct sunlight on hot days to maintain a comfortable cabin temperature.
New safety systems are also standard. These include fiber roll bars, two-stage airbags, headrest airbags, side airbags, active head restraints to reduce whiplash injuries in collisions, automatic child seat recognition, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), and "ATTENTION ASSIST," which precisely detects steering movements and speed during long drives to prompt the driver to take a break.
Special Edition Models Enhance Exterior and Interior
Additionally, a special edition model, the "SLK 55 AMG Edition 1," is available to further enhance the exterior and interior. The exterior features exclusive body colors: designo magno cashmere white, diamond white bright metallic, and obsidian black, along with alloy wheels with striking gloss-finished rims.
The interior boasts a two-tone finish of designo exclusive leather and platinum white pearl. Alcantara is used for the window frames, trim, and steering wheel, while platinum white stitching creates a beautiful contrast on the dashboard and door beltlines.
This new SLK 55 AMG will go on sale in Europe in January 2012. Pricing starts at €72,590 for the SLK 55 AMG and €85,520 for the special edition SLK 55 AMG Edition 1.
