A More Comfortable Roof and Class-Leading Environmental Performance

The SLK series, arguably the most successful sports model in Mercedes-Benz history, enters its third generation. The first generation debuted in 1996, and its electric retractable hardtop, the " vario-roof," set a trend that many subsequent open-top models would adopt. Furthermore, the second generation, launched in 2004, introduced "Airscarf." This feature directs warm air around the neck and shoulders, allowing for comfortable open-air driving even on cold days.

The new third-generation model promises enhanced driving dynamics, premium comfort, and class-leading fuel efficiency and safety.

The body design, in line with classic roadsters and previous SLK models, features a long nose, a compact cabin, and a very short rear overhang.

However, its appearance evokes the latest CLS and SLS models. The drag coefficient (Cd) has also improved from the previous model's 0.32 to 0.30.

The interior features machined aluminum trim on the center console for the standard model, with dark brown walnut as an option. The air vents are the same shape as those in the SLS. The display, equipped with communication and entertainment functions, is integrated into the center of the dashboard, as seen in recent Mercedes vehicles. Additionally, the leather-wrapped steering wheel, which has a flat bottom, and the seats utilize sun-reflecting leather to minimize temperature increases in direct sunlight.

The Vario-Roof's New Feature: "Magic Sky Control"

The vario-roof has also evolved with this new model. In addition to the conventional body-colored metal roof, an optional "Panoramic Vario-Roof" is available, featuring a glass panel with the "Magic Sky Control" function. This innovative feature allows the roof's tint to be adjusted from transparent to completely dark with the flick of a switch, offering the open-air experience even in the cold of winter.

All engines are newly designed direct-injection gasoline units, with idling stop adopted across all models. The lineup consists of three variants: the SLK 200 BlueEFFICIENCY, SLK 250 BlueEFFICIENCY, and SLK 350 BlueEFFICIENCY. The top-tier SLK 350 is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine, delivering 225 kW (306 hp), accelerating from 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds, and reaching a top speed of 250 km/h. The SLK 200 BlueEFFICIENCY and SLK 250 BlueEFFICIENCY are equipped with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder direct-injection turbo engine, tuned differently. The SLK 250 produces 150 kW (204 hp), achieves 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds, has a top speed of 250 km/h, and boasts impressive fuel economy of 27 mpg (11.5 L/100 km).
