Boost Your Health and Beauty with Hydrogen!

I wrote in my series last July about how I love drinking hydrogen water, but lately, I've become even more obsessed with "hydrogen." This is because I had a conversation with Professor Shigeo Ohta, a leading expert on hydrogen, for the April issue of "B.S.TORY" magazine (released February 17th), and learned a great deal about its effects. The more I learn, the more I realize how amazing hydrogen might be!

My Curiosity Was Sparked!

Research is currently underway worldwide into hydrogen's antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, metabolic-boosting, and various other effects. The first time I drank hydrogen water, I was surprised by how finely the particles seemed to permeate my body, and I've been drinking it ever since. However, the truth is, I wasn't drinking it primarily for its effects, but rather to increase my water intake.

But after hearing about hydrogen's various benefits from Professor Ohta, my curiosity was ignited, and before I knew it, hydrogen products like the bath salts, cream, essence, and face masks shown in the photo had accumulated around me!

Hydrogen Baths: A World of Benefits

What I particularly love is the hydrogen bath salts ("Suiso no Yu" in the photo). Simply by adding these to my bath, I break into an incredible sweat! It's comparable to the sweat I'd experience in a bedrock bath or sand bath. Even after getting out of the bath, sweat continues to gently bead from my scalp for a while, and my body feels wonderfully warm (or rather, hot!). Since hydrogen is a tiny, nano-level substance, when used in bath salts, it's absorbed through the skin, and the hydrogen released into the air is also absorbed into the body through the lungs via respiration, reaching cells throughout the body. They say its effects are many times greater than drinking hydrogen water.

Furthermore, it's said that bathing in hydrogen water for a week helps to stabilize your body temperature at its normal level, which is another welcome effect. After all, a drop of 1 degree Celsius in body temperature is said to reduce immunity by 30%, and an increase in body temperature boosts basal metabolism, making it easier to burn visceral fat. Of course, it also dilates blood vessels, improving blood flow – it truly seems to be a cascade of benefits. However, to achieve these effects, you need to soak in the bath for at least 20 minutes, so it might be a bit challenging for those who dislike soaking in the tub or are short on time. I make it a point to soak for 20 minutes every night, with the intention of 'canceling out today's active oxygen today.'

Oh, and I have a habit of bathing twice a day; I use a carbonated bath in the morning (see my July 2011 series), which leaves my skin and hair incredibly smooth! (Self-proclaimed, of course). And I believe that the fact my hay fever is noticeably milder this year compared to last is thanks to these hydrogen baths.

Before Sunscreen, Use Hydrogen-Generating Cream

The hydrogen-generating cream (Auter Original Cream) is infused with hydrogenated magnesium, which reacts with the moisture on your skin to generate hydrogen. This effect revitalizes skin cells and normalizes metabolism. As a result, waste products are properly eliminated, leading to improvements in dark spots and dullness, smoother skin, and enhanced firmness and hydration. Indeed, after applying this cream for a while, my skin becomes incredibly lustrous, as if it has absorbed water, and the dark spots I applied it more thickly to seem to have faded slightly.

Professor Ohta also mentioned that hydrogen works to eliminate hydroxyl radicals (a type of active oxygen) generated by titanium dioxide found in sunscreens and foundations. Therefore, I've recently made it a habit to apply it before my sunscreen in the morning. The only drawback is that the cream is a bit difficult to spread, but if you dot it onto slightly damp skin immediately after applying toner or regular cream, and then spread it over your entire face, it works fine.

For regular hydrogen pack treatments, I use the hydrogen essence (Auter Essence). This is something you add to water, stir, and it generates hydrogen. I add one drop to plain water or freshly made hydrogen water, stir, let it sit for a minute, then soak a cotton pad for a pack, or transfer a small amount of toner to a small container, add one drop, and use it as hydrogen water toner.

In this way, "hydrogen" has now become indispensable for both my health and beauty. To everyone involved in the world of hydrogen, I eagerly anticipate the development of even more wonderful products!
