May 2013 | Easy, effortless, and turning gray hair into a style statement for beautiful hair—four birds with one stone!

“Are you enjoying coloring your gray hair at home?”

Last monthFollowing up from last month, I'd like to introduce a product I've been featured in an advertisement for. It's "Naturain Color Treatment" (hoyu). This is a color treatment for gray hair, but it's different from typical products. Each time you use it, it repairs damaged hair—what a marvel! In other words, it's a two-in-one treatment that not only colors gray hair but also makes your hair beautiful.

Just treat your hair while shampooing!

If I recall, I started getting my gray hair colored regularly at a salon about seven years ago. I used to go once a month, but each time I'd think, "Coloring gray hair is such a futile act," and feel weary. The very joy and motivation for beauty treatments come from the hope of becoming more beautiful. But with gray hair coloring, each touch-up damages the hair, making it drier and frizzier, and within a week, new white hairs start to grow... This cycle repeats, so it's natural to feel fed up.

However, I was able to escape from such futile acts after discovering this gray hair treatment. It colors gray hair simply by treating it while shampooing at home, and it definitely makes hair look better. The only hassle is when you first start using it, as you need to apply the treatment for five consecutive days. For those who shampoo daily, this might not be an issue, but for me, who shampoos only two to three times a week, five days in a row felt a bit tedious. Still, with the hope that "I can finally say goodbye to this futile act!" I began the first day of treatment. "Huh? It hasn't colored..." I felt a little disappointed. Day two, "Still not there..." I started to feel a bit anxious. Then, from day three, it began to color, and by day five, the result was "No more gray hair!" This is exactly how the coloring progresses as described in the instructions. The recommended usage frequency is "about 2-3 times a week," which perfectly matches my shampooing schedule. So now, I follow a cycle of treating my hair while shampooing.

Fujiwara's Method for Using "Naturain Color Treatment"

Now, about the usage. The instructions mentioned two application timings: leaving it on for 10 minutes after shampooing, or applying for 20-30 minutes on dry hair before shampooing. I chose the latter. Applying it 30 minutes before my bath in the morning and letting it sit is convenient, and during that time, I'm working on my writing, so there's no loss of time. My personal trick for application is to use a comb to apply the treatment along the hairline, as if combing it in, and then apply it generously with my gloved hands to the rest of the hair. In other words, I apply it carefully to the hairline and roughly to the rest. This way, it applies evenly. Another tip is to start applying from the opposite side of your dominant hand. Since I'm right-handed, I start with my left side, which prevents the treatment from getting on my sleeve cuffs (if you're left-handed, start from the right). To avoid getting it on the sink, I use a file case as a temporary holder for the product and comb while I'm applying it.

Well, one of the excellent points of this gray hair dye is that it also improves hair quality. About a week after I started using it, acquaintances began to comment, "Your hair looks so shiny! Did you do something?" They also complimented the color. This product comes in three shades: Natural Brown, Dark Brown, and Natural Black. I'm using Natural Brown, which is a beautiful color on its own, but I believe the shininess of my hair enhances the color's appearance, creating a synergistic effect.

A Product That Made Me Realize, "This is What Beauty Should Be!"

This product repairs hair damage with "Sea Mud Mineral EX (a proprietary hoyu repair ingredient)," which combines "sea mud" rich in minerals with "highly adhesive hyaluronic acid" for superior moisture retention. It also contains taurine, theanine, and glucosamine to strengthen weakened hair, along with natural moisturizing ingredients like hydrolyzed collagen, royal jelly extract, and avocado oil. Furthermore, it's additive-free and weakly acidic, so your hair becomes healthier with each application. When coloring can actually improve your hair, coloring gray hair at home becomes less of a chore and more enjoyable. It's a product that truly made me think, "This is what beauty should be!"

Of course, the coloring effect is slightly milder than regular hair dye or professional salon coloring. However, I've noticed that this gentler effect makes newly grown gray hairs less conspicuous. The gray areas blend in beautifully, creating a natural highlight effect. In other words, I realized that instead of desperately trying to hide gray hair and pretend it doesn't exist, a more effective approach is to coexist with it. Gray hair, by nature, only increases and never decreases. Therefore, trying to make it disappear becomes increasingly difficult. Embracing gray hair and utilizing its characteristics is simpler, more effortless, and turns what could be a flaw into a stylish highlight—that's three benefits. Or rather, since it also improves hair quality, it's four benefits in one. Apparently, even young people are experiencing more gray hairs these days. If you're curious, give it a try!
