“Carbonated Bath” Boosts Beauty, Health, and Happiness! (1)

To think that my home’s “carbonated beauty” environment would get an upgrade…! On the afternoon of the day I submitted last month’s draft about my current fascination with carbonated mist care. I went to my usual hair salon, ‘Vanilla,’ for a color treatment, and what a coincidence! They said, “We recently installed a carbonated shower system, so we’ll shampoo your hair with that.”

A Dream Device for a Bath Lover Who Enjoys Two Baths a Day

It’s surprising to hear about something you’re currently interested in in an unexpected place, and that’s exactly how I felt. As I sat there, my mind buzzing with surprise and question marks about “Why carbonation at a hair salon?” and “What is a carbonated shower?”, the salon staff looked at me curiously, asking, “What’s with the expression?” So, I explained that I’m currently very into carbonated beauty for this and that reason, and hearing about “carbonation” here too was a shock. They then replied, “We actually carry this product here too.”

With a sense of dangerous anticipation, I decided to have my hair shampooed with the carbonated shower. After just one wash, the texture of my hair clearly changed! It felt moist and soft. “So, carbonation really works,” I thought, touching my hair as I felt its effect. Then, they showed me a brochure, saying, “If you’re thinking of using it at home, the bath version might be good for you.”

It’s called the “Microbubble & Artificial Carbonated Spring Bath System: HOUSEN HB-400A” (Hokuto). Carbonated spring, you say? Does that mean I can enjoy a hot spring experience at home? For me, a bath lover who enjoys two baths a day, that sounds like a dream. Plus, this device not only offers carbonation but also has a microbubble function.

Carbonation improves blood circulation, offering detoxifying and warming effects. These effects can help regulate blood pressure, alleviate stiff shoulders, and benefit atopic skin. It’s even used in hospitals with success for diabetic patients suffering from poor peripheral circulation in their feet. Furthermore, carbonated spring water is slightly acidic, which makes hair moist and skin smooth. In short, it’s effective for health, beautiful skin, and lustrous hair. Microbubbles, on the other hand, provide cleansing effects, negative ions, massage effects from the bubbles, and moisturizing effects that hydrate both hair and skin.

Of course, I’ve already experienced the effects of carbonation with the handheld “Carbonated Mist Care” device, so I could fully imagine the benefits described in the brochure. However, there were two issues. Given its high efficacy, the price was also steep at 450,000 yen (!). Moreover, not only does the device require installation, but its power cord runs through the bathroom, and a 5kg carbon dioxide cylinder must be placed in the changing room. In other words, the aesthetics would be somewhat compromised. Nevertheless, I chose the “substance” over appearances, and my home’s “carbonated beauty” environment has been significantly enhanced.

So, how do I use it? First, when the bath is about half full, I turn on the carbonation switch. After 40 minutes, when the carbonation reaches its peak of 1000 ppm and stops, I get in. Then, while bathing, I continue to direct the carbonated water from the nozzle onto my face along the lymphatic flow for about 10 minutes. As I do this, I notice visible improvements: “Oh, my skin is getting whiter!” and “My skin is becoming radiant!” It’s so delightful and enjoyable! Of course, the carbonated water circulates in the tub, so I believe it would be effective even without direct application to the face, but I feel it’s even more effective when applied directly, so I use this method.

When washing my hair or my nose area, I turn on the “Microbubble” function. It’s convenient that I can switch from the carbonation function to the microbubble function with just a button press. The reason I focus on my hair and nose is, naturally, due to the superior cleansing effect. Apparently, you don’t even need shampoo or conditioner when using this. Indeed, it removes dirt thoroughly, and my hair feels moist and soft after washing. This has even been proven with my long-haired dog, Alf. His coat tends to require a lot of shampoo and conditioner to remove dirt and prevent tangles, but after washing him with microbubble water, even with a minimal amount of shampoo and conditioner, his fur turned out moist and fluffy. Touching Alf’s fur, I exclaimed, “Mmm, this… might be amazing!” and further realized its effectiveness. By the way, I alternate between days when I wash with only microbubble water and days when I use a very small amount of shampoo and conditioner. My new hair-washing routine now includes applying oil at the end.

I apply it to my nose area to remove pore-clogging dirt. While removing dirt is the basic approach to dealing with enlarged pores, this method only requires rinsing with water, so there’s no need to worry about stressing the skin. As a side note, after removing the dirt this way, I’ve been enjoying a routine of gently rolling a small roller called “I STYLE” from “Re Fa” (which I introduced last month) over my nose area. I feel that the enlarged pores are gradually diminishing. I also use it on my nose area to remove dirt from my pores. The basic treatment for enlarged pores is to remove dirt, and with this, you just rinse with water, so there's no need to worry about putting a strain on your skin.

Once a week, I use the microbubble function in the bathtub to cleanse my entire body. Normally, using it about three times a week is recommended, but since I take baths twice a day, have thin skin, and my natural sebum is an important skincare ingredient at my age (!), once a week seems sufficient for me. Oh, and on a whim, I tried wearing my usual diamond rings while bathing with microbubbles, and as expected, they came out sparkling clean. So, it’s a “Microbubble Bath that Beautifies People, Dogs, and Jewelry!”

After getting out of the carbonated bath and completing my skincare, I finish with a spritz of the “Carbonated Mist Care” (which I introduced last month) all over my face. This is my recent “carbonated beauty” routine. Oh, and I also use the mist for “nasal rinsing.” I discovered that applying carbonation to the nasal mucous membranes helps soothe inflammation caused by pollen, and since then, rinsing my nose with carbonated mist after returning home has become a recent habit, not just during skincare.

This “carbonated bath,” which not only benefits beauty and health but also allows me to relax in the gentle warmth of the water and feel a comforting, hot-spring-like sense of well-being after bathing, has become indispensable to me. I now spend my bath time thinking that there is no greater luxury or happiness than this.
