SHIGETA's New Premium Oil, Born from Oil Care

CHICO SHIGETA on the Creation of "EX Oil Serum"

From "SHIGETA," a new premium oil serum for aging care, "EX Oil Serum," has been released on October 21st. It is powered by gemstone infusions and formulated with antioxidant-rich oils from pomegranate, cranberry, and tomato seeds. CHICO SHIGETA shares the story behind the development of this special oil, which boasts "three times the antioxidant power of rosehip oil alone," created in pursuit of "a perfect anti-aging oil for women unlike any other," and infused with gemstones selected by French jewelry designer Marie-Hélène de Taillac.

A Blend for "Next-Level Anti-Aging Care"

SHIGETA's philosophy of "beauty" is to "bring out the inherent beauty of each individual." Similarly, Marie-Hélène de Taillac's philosophy in creating her work is to "bring out the inherent beauty of each stone." It is from this shared philosophy and passion, which were destined to meet, that the powerful and precious anti-aging oil "EX Oil Serum" was born.

SHIGETA's Masterpiece Oil, Nine Years in the Making

CHICO SHIGETA states, "This is the first new oil product in nine years since SHIGETA launched its oil line in 2006, and it's our first serum-type oil."

"Oil-based beauty is a trend right now, and while we've been advocating for oil-based beauty for a long time, it feels like it's finally gaining mainstream acceptance. At the same time, oil fits perfectly with the global movement to re-evaluate lifestyles. Beauty used to be about 'becoming someone else to be beautiful—approaching a model's look,' but now it's shifting to 'I feel beautiful = I’m beautiful.' Recognizing that being attractive in daily life is important, and also crucial for career advancement, people are incorporating 'becoming beautiful' into their lifestyle choices, alongside taking supplements, doing yoga or jogging, and facial massages."

Furthermore, "Previously, becoming beautiful was an effort, but now it has transformed into a pleasurable experience. While many organic brands offer oils, and the use of oils is becoming more widespread, many people in Japan, accustomed to a lotion-and-emulsion culture, still find oils heavy. The biggest benefit of oil is that it strengthens the skin. It's important to build a 'skin pillar' by using oils effectively, but truly satisfying oils for professionals are rare."

Therefore, CHICO felt compelled to "dispel the prejudice against oils and create something that truly conveys the benefits of plant-based oils." She decided that if she were to create something, it would be extraordinary, and embarked on developing a new oil.

Encountering Marie-Hélène de Taillac

"I wanted to care for the skin, of course, but also for the mental aspect, so I started research and development. While SHIGETA has previously addressed mental care through scent, I wanted to incorporate something else for this oil," says CHICO.

"In Paris, when jewelry designer Marie-Hélène de Taillac received my treatment, she said, 'Minerals grow from the earth.' That left a strong impression on me, and I thought, 'Plants also grow from the earth, so what if I infused gemstones into oil?'"

Before discussing the idea with Marie-Hélène, CHICO conducted her own experiments. She felt that "energy had been imbued into the oil" and, upon receiving Marie-Hélène's enthusiastic agreement, asked her to select six stones that would enhance women's beauty for both skin and mind.

"Each stone has its own effect. Crystal acts as a goalkeeper, protecting the entire oil. Pink tourmaline brings joy, sapphire brings a peaceful mind, rainbow moonstone regulates hormonal rhythms, emerald is a stone of longevity, and fire opal is like a forward, for creativity and fertility. I carefully matched the compatibility between plant oils and stones, infused six types of plant oils with six different stones one by one, and then blended them," she explains.

By matching oils and stones with compatible energies, the efficacy and precision of each ingredient were maximized.

For Those Concerned About Aging: Start with Two Weeks

"This EX Oil Serum can be used by anyone, regardless of gender, skin type, or age. Even pregnant women can use it (except for those with pregnancy-related skin issues)," says CHICO.

The most effective way to use it is as an intensive treatment for two weeks: two dropperfuls for the 15ml bottle, or four dropperfuls for the 5ml bottle, applied before bed. "Your skin will truly revive. In the morning, use a small amount, or if you're hesitant about oils, mix it with your lotion or cream. It can also be used for massage, and over time, your skin will become radiant and translucent," she advises.

Drawing from her experience as a therapist, CHICO is convinced of the effects that precious stones have on the mind and body. She recommends incorporating this anti-aging oil into your daily routine.
