Ride a New York Taxi in Tokyo | Nissan Gallery

Fumio Ogawa driving a New York taxi. Left-hand drive, of course.
Apart from the left-hand drive, the dashboard is largely the same as a standard NV200. However, as it's a US model, distances and fuel economy are shown in miles and gallons, and the navigation system is not displayed as it lacks Japanese maps.
In the center of the front seats are buttons for mirror adjustment and taxi-specific operations. The illuminated button controls the intercom for communication with passengers. The audio is clear, allowing for smooth conversations even while driving. The passenger area also has a button for initiating calls.
Below the partition between the front and rear seats is a button to toggle the automatic passenger entry/exit step.
Unlike Japanese taxis, the rear doors are opened and closed manually by passengers, so there is no automatic door mechanism.
Fumio Ogawa seated in the rear. As traffic is right-hand, passengers primarily enter and exit from this side.
The rear seat accommodates three passengers, with a three-point seatbelt for the center seat.
A sunroof with a large opening area is located in the ceiling, allowing passengers to gaze up at New York's skyscrapers from within the taxi.
A spacious sunroof offers an open feel. The view combines New York's iconic taxi with Tokyo's landmarks.
View from the rear seats looking forward. A transparent plastic partition completely separates the passenger area from the driver's seat, ensuring mutual security. Communication is handled via the intercom.
A cutout for fare payment is located below the back of the passenger seat.
A replica of a New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission driver's license.
A large screen is installed in front of the rear seats. The test vehicle was playing a demo movie introducing the vehicle.
The intercom button for communicating with the driver. The audio is very clear, allowing for easy conversation even while driving.
Rear seat climate control adjustment buttons. The display is in Fahrenheit. Below are a cigarette lighter socket and USB ports.
The rear window opening mechanism has a unique structure where you grasp the triangular flaps on both sides and slide them. The opening is very small.
The taxi's iconic roof lamp.
A license sticker is affixed to the hood.
Fare meter details, indicating the yellow cab fare structure, including a fixed rate to JFK International Airport.
An automatic step that deploys when the rear door opens or closes. This photo shows it retracted.
The step deployed. This step is also featured on the Japanese-spec NV200 Vanette Taxi.
The opening of the rear window.
Equipped with indicator lights for emergency calls and other notifications.
Being based on the NV200 Vanette, it offers a wide opening and cargo space. Depending on the specification, options like a wheelchair ramp can be installed.
The engine is a 2-liter inline 4-cylinder.
