In the Goodyear welt construction, stitching is done separately inside and out.
Cork is packed into the space created by the welt (tab) on the underside of the insole.
Once the cork filler has dried, the outsole is attached.
After trimming the overhanging part of the slightly larger outsole, the outsole and the welt are sewn together in a process called 'outsole stitching'.
The sole leather is dampened and stitched. This is a crucial step for John Lobb shoes.
Fine adjustments are made to each shoe as the heel seat is trimmed and attached.
