Fiat's high-performance 2-cylinder TwinAir engine, featuring MultiAir technology for hydraulic control of intake valves, electronic control of valve timing and lift via solenoid valves, and a turbocharger with a small-diameter turbine and intercooler to reduce loss and maintain responsiveness.
The first-generation 500, produced from 1936 to 1955. This two-seater compact car was affectionately known as the Topolino, meaning 'little mouse'. It featured a water-cooled 4-cylinder engine at the front, driving the rear wheels.
The second generation, the Nuova 500 (New 500), was produced from 1957 to 1977. Its body, just 2,970mm long, housed a 13hp air-cooled 2-cylinder engine at the rear, accommodating four people. Part of the roof was a canvas top to dissipate engine vibrations. Designed by Dante Giacosa, it was a hit, promoted as a successor to scooters. It's an iconic Italian car, with laws in Italy even seeming to aim at its preservation.
The Cinquecento, also a successor to the Fiat 126, was sold from 1991 to 1998. Produced in Poland, it was popular in both Poland and Italy.
