Fashion Historian Fumihiko Suzuki on Giorgio Armani's Dandyism | GIORGIO ARMANI GALLERY

GIORGIO ARMANI
Fashion historian Fumihiko Suzuki discusses Armani's dandyism.
GIORGIO ARMANI
The "Made to Measure" room at Giorgio Armani Ginza Tower, with several samples on display.
GIORGIO ARMANI
The "Made to Measure" room is a special space, separate from other floors, where clients can relax and decide on their orders.
GIORGIO ARMANI
Two basic styles form the foundation of "Made to Measure": the classic Armani model and a more structured one. Clients can create their own Armani suit by combining lapels, buttons, and pockets.
GIORGIO ARMANI
"When I look at an Armani jacket, its philosophy is evident in details like the waistline. When viewed from the back, the line shaping the waist begins from the same point as the waist-cinching in women's wear, just below the armpit. From the side, it's characterized by a slight forward slope. The pattern is cut three-dimensionally, not straight," says Fumihiko Suzuki.
GIORGIO ARMANI
"A forward-sloping line naturally means the shoulders are also set slightly forward. This might raise the question of whether the smaller circumference around the sleeves restricts arm movement. The answer is quite the opposite. Because the garment fits the body perfectly, it moves as if it were the wearer's own skin," says Fumihiko Suzuki.
GIORGIO ARMANI
The "Made to Measure" room displays various sample colors and cuffs for custom orders, including tuxedos.
GIORGIO ARMANI
Customers can choose from approximately 200 types of fabrics, including luxurious vicuña wool and fabrics woven with diamonds.
GIORGIO ARMANI
From Giorgio Armani's Autumn/Winter 2012-13 Ready-to-Wear collection. This jacket style is called "HARVARD," a newer model for Armani. As seen from the back, the waist shaping begins just below the armpit, much higher than in other brands. Left: Jacket ¥231,000 (Giorgio Armani / Giorgio Armani Japan).
GIORGIO ARMANI
The "HARVARD" also features a distinctive square-cut hem. The lining is also meticulously crafted from high-quality materials. Jacket ¥231,000, Shirt ¥81,900, Trousers ¥90,300 (all Giorgio Armani / Giorgio Armani Japan).
GIORGIO ARMANI
This is "UPTONE," another key jacket style from Giorgio Armani. Its slightly rounded shoulders and peak lapels, reminiscent of the 1930s, offer a fresh look. Right: Jacket ¥210,000, Shirt ¥55,650, Tie ¥21,000 (all Giorgio Armani / Giorgio Armani Japan).
GIORGIO ARMANI
From the "UPTONE" collection. Viewed from the side, it has a slightly forward-sloping line. Although the sleeve circumference is narrow, it's designed with a deep understanding of human anatomy, allowing for surprising ease of movement. Jacket ¥220,500, Shirt ¥50,400, Tie ¥21,000 (all Giorgio Armani / Giorgio Armani Japan).
GIORGIO ARMANI
The collar height is a key feature of the shirts. With the jacket's impactful lapels, the shirt collar is kept compact for a light impression. Shirt ¥36,750, Tie ¥21,000 (both Giorgio Armani / Giorgio Armani Japan).
GIORGIO ARMANI
Essential items that complete Giorgio Armani's dandyism. From left: Shoes in matte leather with a sophisticated feel ¥89,250, a vest with a modern zippered front ¥120,750, and four-pleat trousers ¥157,500 (all Giorgio Armani / Giorgio Armani Japan).
GIORGIO ARMANI
The appeal of Giorgio Armani ties lies in their high-quality materials, geometric graphic patterns, and unique color palettes. Ties: ¥21,000 each (all Giorgio Armani / Giorgio Armani Japan).
