Recreating a proper wet shave at home is not difficult. Knowing the correct steps is key. Here, we present the traditional process.
First, warm the skin with a steamed towel to thoroughly hydrate the skin and beard. Don't forget to wash your face beforehand.
The key is to apply the steamed towel for about two to three minutes to thoroughly warm the skin and hydrate the beard. If this seems too much trouble, doing it right after a bath or shower will achieve a similar effect.
Barbers warm the entire face during their service. This relaxes the facial muscles and opens the pores, creating an ideal state for shaving.
For sensitive skin or coarse beards, we recommend using a pre-shave oil before shaving. This further softens the beard and reduces friction from the razor gliding over the skin.
Take a coin-sized amount of pre-shave oil, rub it between your palms to warm it, which will improve its spreadability.
Apply the pre-shave oil to the area you intend to shave. The key is to massage it thoroughly into the skin of the shaving area.
During this time, soak your shaving brush in hot water for about two to three minutes to pre-hydrate the bristles and soften them.
Brush in a circular motion. The key is to continue for about a minute, massaging the skin. This helps to dislodge dirt from deep within the pores and lift the beard hairs. Poor lather can be caused by too much or too little water.
Apply lathered shaving cream under the nose. You can also lather directly with the brush, of course. Initially, use your fingertips to determine the direction of beard growth.
Shave in the direction of beard growth (with the grain). For home use, please use a T-shaped safety razor. To prevent clogging, rinse the razor blade with warm water as needed.
As shown in the photo, stretching the skin of the area you are shaving with your left thumb or index finger allows for a closer shave. If you are shaving a second time, reapply shaving cream.
If there are any missed spots, shave against the direction of beard growth (against the grain). Excessive closeness can lead to razor burn, so start with light pressure and proceed carefully.
Once shaving is complete, carefully wipe off the shaving cream with a steamed towel. At home, washing your face with lukewarm water is an acceptable alternative.
Warming the face with a steamed towel opens the pores, allowing for a more thorough removal of residue. Finally, rinsing with cold water tightens the skin and pores.
Thoroughly pat your face dry with a towel. Avoid rubbing your skin vigorously; gently pat it dry.
Finally, apply an after-shave lotion, after-shave balm, or facial moisturizer, depending on your skin type.
After-shave lotion offers a refreshing sensation. Rub it well into your palms before applying to your face. For those sensitive to strong sensations, after-shave balm is recommended.
This facial moisturizer contains Carnosine in addition to Coenzyme Q10. It not only hydrates but also offers anti-aging benefits by combating wrinkles and dark spots. It is also effective when applied around the eyes and on the forehead before bed.
