Seven Architects, Seven Chairs: An Exhibition at Fritz Hansen Gallery

Zaha Hadid: The special edition Seven chair by Zaha Hadid expresses structure and support dynamically and seamlessly. Its sculptural base, composed of two steel rods, reaches fluidly to the ground, extending to embrace the iconic molded plywood seat.
BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group): The design inspiration comes from the chair's components: the layered plywood structure and the functionality of stacking. Based on these, a chair was born that skillfully layers the iconic form of the Seven chair multiple times.

Carlos Ott Architects & Carlos Ponce de León Architects: The design concept for the chair is the flagship building 'Celebra' of Sonamerika, a technological campus. The design needed to blend into the restaurant space where it would be used, becoming an organic extension like the vertical gardens that grow on the open-roofed walls. The shell upholstery has a calm and serene finish, with the curves of the garden areas incorporated into the chair's elements.
Jean Nouvel: Contrasting colors and a linear arrangement are hallmarks of Jean Nouvel's design. While each chair is divided into black and white, they harmonize in a flow between feminine and masculine. This harmony emphasizes the curves of the seat and the shell's back.
Jun Igarashi Architects: When buildings collapse due to earthquakes, many building materials are discarded. The concept for this Seven chair is to collect waste wood, color it, and turn it into boards usable for furniture. The project background selected the wooden houses 'house M' and 'Rectangle of Light.' These two wooden houses create unique, tranquil spaces through their sophisticated use of light and shadow. The quiet atmosphere evokes the individuality and history of the chair's materials.
Neri & Hu: The design concept for this work is rooted in Shanghai in the 1930s. As seen in the renovation of the Waterhouse, ideas of replicas, copies, variations, and remakes are influenced by the duality of original and redesigned. The Waterhouse project's endeavor here is to fully embrace this concept of duality and create actual 'doubles.' By having two original chairs face each other, a new version of the chair is born. Just as individuals form a society, the value generated by multiple chairs is demonstrated.

Snøhetta: The Råland Mountain Church is built on a slope, maintaining its balance, which shares similarities with this Seven chair. While it appears fixed, the shell can be easily pushed to tilt towards the slope and taken outdoors. The idea is that by freeing the chair from constraints, it can be used in many projects. As the project always considers continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces, this outdoor chair became an excellent project for them.
