1974年のデビュー以来、女性ジャズ・ヴォーカリストとして第一線で活躍を続けるDee Dee Bridgewater。約10年前、私が所属していたU.F.O.のレコーディングでご一緒する機会があったのだが、彼女の圧倒的な存在感とパワフルな歌唱力そしてそのオープンマインディッドな姿勢に感動したことは今も忘れられない思い出です。

本作は、彼女が国連の食料農業機関であるFAO(Food and Agriculture of United Nations)の親善大使に選ばれたことによって定期的にアフリカを訪れ、その中のマリの音楽に感銘を受け、現地のミュージシャンとのコラボーレーションによって生まれた素晴らしいものです。

彼女の代表曲である "Afro Blue" やWayne Shorterの "Footprints" を始め、ブルージーでかつダウントゥーアースな楽曲は全てツボに入りました。
なにより彼女が楽しんでセッションしたであろうヴァイブが満ち溢れています。

Since her debut in 1974, Dee Dee's been in the front line of female Jazz vocalist.

10 years ago, when I was in the group called U.F.O. we worked together on a recording and I still remember how I was impressed by her open minded attitude and her powerful voices.

This album is made when she visited Africa as goodwill ambassador of FAO(Food and Agriculture of United Nations), she was inspired by the music in Mali and collaborated with local musicians.

Jazz ,Bluesy and down to earth tracks including her own "Afro Blue" and Wayne Shorter's "Footprints" are great it also has a vibe that you can tell she enjoyed the recording so much.
