Ressence, the Belgian watchmaker renowned for developing and manufacturing original mechanisms, has released the "Type 2," a mechanical watch equipped with the world's first smart crown, "e-Crown®."

The new "Type 2" embodies the brand's philosophy of "making mechanical watches even more wonderful." It features the "e-Crown®," the world's first smart crown for a mechanical watch. This model merges the precision of mechanical watchmaking with smartphone connectivity, enhancing the product's appeal through improved legibility, usability, and user experience.

The "Type 2" was born from the minimalist yet innovative ROCS (Ressence Orbital Convex System) mechanism. This unit features a constantly moving dial that orbits and chases itself, creating a layered display of hands and dials for enhanced legibility. In addition to this unique mechanism, the smart crown "e-Crown®" synchronizes with a smartphone to automatically set and adjust the watch to the correct time when needed, offering a novel visual experience and superior operability for a mechanical watch.

The "e-Crown®" is activated and adjusted by tapping the sapphire crystal. When the time is set using the lever on the case back, the set time is digitally registered by the e-Crown®, which then automatically adjusts the time. Even if the watch is not worn for three months, tapping the sapphire crystal allows the e-Crown® to quickly display the correct time. Separate from the watch's movement, power for time correction is supplied by solar cells hidden behind ten micro-shutters on the dial. These cells capture ambient light, enabling the watch to be self-sufficient in terms of power.
