Seiko is releasing a 140th Anniversary Limited Edition Model, "GRAND SEIKO Heritage Collection Series 9 Seiko 140th Anniversary Limited Edition," on July 23, 2021. This model, limited to 140 pieces, expresses the evolution of Grand Seiko, inheriting the founder's creed. The watch features a dial inspired by tree rings, harmonizing with its platinum case to create a deep, sophisticated aesthetic.

To commemorate Seiko's 140th anniversary, the "GRAND SEIKO Heritage Collection Series 9 Seiko 140th Anniversary Limited Edition" has been announced.

True to the founder's words, "Step by step, without haste or rest, always strive for the highest," this watch embodies the accumulation of technology and passion over its long history. The dial's organic pattern, reminiscent of tree rings that grow year by year, represents the steady growth of a great tree over time. By increasing the height difference compared to traditional stamping patterns and applying fine linear brushing to hundreds of points on the flowing wood grain, a unique and dynamic pattern has been achieved.

The indexes are meticulously crafted from 18K gold, emitting a delicate and beautiful radiance. At the 6 o'clock position, an SD mark signifies that the dial features solid gold indexes, underscoring the model's special nature.

This piece represents "Series 9," Grand Seiko's new design philosophy that pursues the essence of watchmaking with Japanese aesthetics while inheriting the brand's core values. Building upon the design established in 1967 with the "44GS," it embraces the Japanese sensibility of finding beauty "between light and shadow" in its gracefully flowing forms. This new design language aims to further enhance essential legibility and wearability.

The platinum case, finished with Zaratsu polishing for a distortion-free mirror surface and delicate linear brushing, creates not only beautiful light and deep shadow but also renders the subtle gradations of light that transition between them. On the dial, prominent indexes with deep grooves are combined with three-dimensional hour and minute hands, enhanced for legibility through strong contrast, achieving further improvements in visibility. Furthermore, the wide leather strap and the case, designed for a low center of gravity and a comfortable fit, enhance wearability.

This model is equipped with the "Caliber 9SA5," Grand Seiko's latest mechanical high-beat movement introduced in 2020. This next-generation movement features a dual-impulse escapement with high transmission efficiency and a twin barrel, achieving a high beat rate of 36,000 vibrations per hour while offering approximately 80 hours of power reserve on a full wind. Its unique horizontal wheel train structure also allows for a slimmer profile. The "Caliber 9SA5" is meticulously crafted by experienced artisans at the "Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi" workshop, nestled amidst rich nature and overlooking the majestic Mount Iwate.
