From <Grand Seiko>, a Spring Drive Chronograph GMT model commemorating the 140th anniversary of Seiko's founding, featuring a striking contrast between luxurious 18K yellow gold and lustrous black ceramic, will be released in a limited edition of 500 pieces on Thursday, June 10, 2021.

Since its inception, <Grand Seiko> has pursued and achieved "innovation and evolution" to create the world's finest timepieces, guided by the belief of Seiko's founder, Kintaro Hattori, to "always be one step ahead of the times." This belief is embodied in the "<Grand Seiko> Sport Collection Seiko 140th Anniversary Limited Model Spring Drive Chronograph GMT," which features an unprecedented new design and is available in a limited edition of 500 pieces.

This model features a bezel that combines 18K yellow gold and black ceramic for the first time in the brand's history, creating an intelligent impression with its lustrous sheen. The polygonal yellow gold bezel is a dodecagon with 12 vertices aligned with the indexes, making it easy to read the time from any angle while creating a variety of light reflections. Furthermore, the use of zirconia ceramic, which offers exceptional scratch resistance, on the upper part of the bezel ensures that the watch's inherent beauty is preserved for eternity.

The case is finished with Zaratsu polishing, featuring a hairline finish on the top and a mirror finish on the sides, achieving Grand Seiko's signature sharp, unadorned form and exquisite brilliance. The gold-colored hour and minute hands and indexes on the black dial offer excellent legibility and harmonize with the bezel, further adorning the wrist with a touch of luxury. The 18K yellow gold pushers have been reduced in size while retaining their satisfying click, improving wearability.

This model is equipped with the Spring Drive movement Caliber 9R86, completed in 2007. It boasts an accuracy of ±15 seconds per month (±1 second per day) and a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. Even when the chronograph is in operation, it maintains its accuracy and allows the stopwatch function to operate precisely, ensuring long-lasting performance. The use of a column wheel for reliable operation and a vertical-clutch system, which prevents hand jump at the start of measurement, enables accurate timekeeping. This power transmission system was first adopted by Seiko in 1969 for an automatic chronograph. Subsequently, the material and shape of the clutch spring were reviewed, and accuracy was further refined, leading to its adoption in this caliber.
