Ressence, the Belgian brand founded by an industrial designer, has released the "Type 1 Slim." This new iteration of the innovative "Type 1" watch, first introduced in 2014, houses its unique mechanical movement—which displays time, seconds, date, and day of the week in a distinctive way—within an exceptionally slim 11mm case, enhanced by superior design.

The "Type 1 Slim" is born from the brand's proprietary (and patented) ROCS (Ressence Orbital Convex System) mechanism. ROCS is an ingenious system where the dial continuously moves, orbiting as if in pursuit, to convey information more effectively. The time, seconds, date, and day are all displayed on a single dial, appearing as if written on a single plane, ensuring enhanced legibility. This is a fundamentally different and unique display method compared to traditional watches that layer hands and dials to represent information.

Retaining the visual balance of simplicity and complexity that defines the essence of Ressence and dictates the beauty of its timepieces, the "Type 1 Slim" makes its debut. The case design is not only thinner at 11mm compared to existing models but also presents a more modern impression, complemented by a strap that appears to meld seamlessly with the case. Furthermore, the lugs and case are milled from a single block of grade 5 titanium.

This watch eschews a traditional crown; the winding and adjustment mechanisms are located on the case back, allowing for manual adjustment via a lever. This is an ergonomically superior design, enabling the watch to be worn comfortably on either the left or right wrist, regardless of crown placement. The domed sapphire crystal covers the case to its edge, and the case surface's curve offers an exceptionally smooth tactile experience. Visually, the sapphire's texture takes precedence over the case, further enhancing legibility.
