A Model Rooted in the Spirit of Mountain Exploration, Also Usable as a Compass
The "Montblanc 1858 Automatic 24H" is a model rooted in the spirit of mountain exploration. It is a timepiece that evokes the original Minerva chronographs and pocket watches from the 1920s and 30s, combining vintage design codes with the current trend of returning to nature.
It features a new complication that displays 24 hours with a single hand, making it usable not only as a timekeeper for reading hours and minutes but also as a compass. The 24-hour scale displays the time, and the red-colored hand with Super-LumiNova® coating ensures good legibility day and night.
Furthermore, this red hand functions not only to indicate the time but also as a compass. For accuracy, the compass scale is displayed by a beige ring running along the outer edge of the dial, with markers every approximately 5 degrees and the cardinal direction indicated in red.
The Earth revolves around the sun once every 24 hours, making a 24-hour watch a compass and a useful tool for finding the right path. The sun always rises in the east, sets in the west, and indicates south at noon. By holding the watch horizontally to the ground and rotating it until the tip of the hour hand points to the sun, all directional indications on the dial are correctly positioned. In the Northern Hemisphere, north is at the 24 o'clock position and south at the 12 o'clock position, but in the Southern Hemisphere, the directional indications are reversed.
The dial, featuring a map of the Northern Hemisphere, is designed with a black and beige color contrast to enhance legibility. Traditional cathedral hands with luminescent treatment, Arabic numerals with Super-LumiNova® coating, a minute track at 15-minute intervals, and the original Montblanc logo from the 1930s engraved alongside the Mont Blanc emblem complete the dial.
The case back is engraved with "Spirit of Mountain Exploration," and combined with the NATO strap, it is finished to further inspire a sense of adventure.
