Expressing Power with a Crimson Dial!

The iconic monster film "Godzilla," which has captivated film fans worldwide. In the first film, released in 1954, Godzilla lands in Ginza and destroys the clock tower of the Wako Main Building. It is this connection that inspired the creation of this special collaboration model, commemorating both Godzilla's 65th anniversary and Grand Seiko's Spring Drive's 20th anniversary.
A striking feature is the crimson dial, which exudes intense power. This dial is adorned with a dynamic radial pattern, inspired by Godzilla's "atomic breath." The bold hands and indices, befitting the dial's impact, are coated with Lumibrite for excellent legibility, day or night. True to the brand's philosophy, this sporty design ensures high practicality, a hallmark of Grand Seiko.
The robust case, crafted from Bright Titanium, features Zaratsu-polished, distortion-free curved surfaces and hairline-finished lugs that emphasize its powerful silhouette. The broad contact surface between the case bottom and the wrist, along with a lower center of gravity, ensures exceptional comfort.
To evoke the texture of Godzilla's skin, the shark strap is coated in red over a black base, conveying the vibrant, dark red glow of Godzilla's hide. The case back depicts Godzilla destroying the Ginza cityscape and the Wako Main Building, a scene reminiscent of the first film in 1954. This design is an entirely original creation by Shinji Higuchi, director and special effects director of "Shin Godzilla," who paid homage to Grand Seiko's iconic lion emblem specifically for this collaboration model. Furthermore, the serial number is engraved alongside the "1954 Godzilla 2019" logo.
The watch is powered by the "Spring Drive," a unique movement celebrating its 20th anniversary. It features the specially accurate Caliber 9R15, boasting an average monthly rate of ±10 seconds.
This special collaboration model is limited to 650 pieces worldwide and will be available at Grand Seiko Boutiques and Grand Seiko Salons starting Saturday, November 9, 2019.
