Legendary Surfer Laird Hamilton Appointed Ambassador for "J12 MARINE"

Text by OPENERS

Laird Hamilton, renowned worldwide as a big-wave surfer, is known as a "legendary surfer" who pioneered "tow-in surfing," entering the tube of waves at tremendous speeds by being towed by a jet ski and plunging into waves over 20 meters high. Hamilton, widely hailed as a genius, has now become the ambassador for Chanel'sdivers watchcollection, the "J12 MARINE."

"I am incredibly honored and delighted to be an ambassador for Chanel's J12 Marine and to support a brand with such a praiseworthy history. This watch is the real deal. I've tested it in the waves, and I can confidently say there's no concern about shocks. I am very pleased with this partnership with Chanel, and I intend to embark on many more adventures with the J12 Marine on my wrist," Hamilton stated.

Hamilton has dedicated most of his life to pioneering new surfing techniques, and in recent years, he has also been actively involved in marine environmental protection activities to preserve nature. In recognition of this partnership with Hamilton, Chanel has also decided to support the Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the research, education, beautification, and protection of the marine environment. This partnership marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for both parties.

BRAND HISTORY
In 1910, founder Gabrielle Chanel opened a hat boutique on Rue Cambon in Paris. This marked the beginning of Chanel, now a world-renowned maison.

In 1932, she unveiled a fine jewelry collection at her private salon. Chanel has consistently created captivating pieces not only in fashion but also in jewelry. In 1987, Chanel introduced its first watch, the "Première" ladies' watch. Inspired by "Place Vendôme," the mecca of jewelers and later the site of the company's jewelry boutique, and the "Chanel N°5" perfume bottle stopper, the emerald-cut watch captivated many women with its beauty.

Subsequently, "Mademoiselle" was launched in 1990, followed by "Matelassé" in 1993. However, the most noteworthy is arguably the "J12," the company's first mechanical watch, introduced in 2000. This unisex model, with its innovative ceramic design, quickly became an icon for the brand, leading to numerous variations such astourbillon, chronograph, and GMT models.

In 2008, the "J12 Caliber 3125" marked the first collaboration with Audemars Piguet. The "J12" collection alone demonstrates Chanel's boundless creative potential. The maison continues to uphold Mademoiselle Chanel's design philosophy, "Fashion changes, but style remains eternal," in the realm of watchmaking.
