This year, 2010, marks the 50th anniversary of "Grand Seiko." To celebrate, an unveiling of upcoming anniversary models was held at the Kikuchi-Kanji Memorial Museum of Art in Toranomon, Tokyo.

Celebrating Grand Seiko's 50th Anniversary

In 2010, Grand Seiko, Seiko's flagship collection, celebrates its 50th anniversary. Seiko created this collection on December 18, 1960, driven by a profound passion for watches, aiming to "create the world's finest wristwatch." To achieve the high precision befitting a leading Japanese watch, they established their own accuracy standards, reaching unprecedented precision for mechanical watches by the late 1960s. Since then, they have continued their research in pursuit of "the pinnacle of practical watches," crafting numerous masterpieces that capture the hearts of enthusiasts. On May 24th, an event was held at Tokyo's Kikuchi-Kanji Memorial Museum of Art to celebrate its 50th anniversary with an unveiling of anniversary models. From recently announced models to a limited platinum edition scheduled for release this November, commemorative pieces gracing this 50th anniversary were gathered in one place.

Spring Drive, Quartz, and Mechanical: Three Commemorative Models Arrive

Grand Seiko watches pursue legibility, wearability, and superior finishing, embodying Seiko's enduring "Seiko Style." This collection comprises three products: mechanical, quartz, and models equipped with Spring Drive, Seiko's proprietary mechanism. Leading the charge for this anniversary collection is a model featuring Spring Drive, Seiko's unique mechanism that condenses and fuses the strengths of mechanical and quartz movements. This model incorporates a special 50th-anniversary specification, utilizing the highest-precision Spring Drive movement. It is equipped with the "9R15" caliber, which enhances the timekeeping accuracy of the standard "9R65" caliber (average monthly difference ±15 seconds/daily difference ±1 second) to an average monthly difference of ±10 seconds (daily difference ±0.5 seconds). Following this, quartz and mechanical models, also boasting supreme accuracy, are scheduled for future release.

All models feature a lion motif (18K gold), symbolizing "The King of Watches," inspired by the first model from the 1960s, placed at the 3 o'clock position alongside the "50th Anniversary" inscription. Meticulously baked blued steel and the artisan's dedication are reflected in every detail of these three models.
