Two special limited edition models commemorating the 55th anniversary of the "44GS" and featuring two new-generation movements from Grand Seiko will be available starting Thursday, February 24, 2022. Each will be limited to 550 pieces worldwide, with 200 allocated for Japan.

Grand Seiko, born in 1960 with the ambition to create the ultimate wristwatch, has consistently pursued the essence of watchmaking—precision, beauty, and legibility—at the highest level. The "44GS" model, introduced in 1967, established its design principles and defined "Grammar of Design." To commemorate the 55th anniversary of this historic model's debut, two limited edition special models have been announced: the Grand Seiko Heritage Collection 44GS 55th Anniversary Limited Model Mechanical Hi-Beat 80 Hours and the Grand Seiko Heritage Collection 44GS 55th Anniversary Limited Model Spring Drive 5 Days.

Both models feature "Ever-Brilliant Steel" for the case and bracelet, a material offering superior corrosion resistance, marking a first for Grand Seiko. This advanced material, whiter and more beautiful than conventional stainless steel, harmonizes with the evolved mechanical movement "Caliber 9SA5" and the Spring Drive movement "Caliber 9RA2," beautifully accentuating the "44GS" design, which boasts a 55-year history.

The dials are finished in dark blue for the mechanical model and dark gray for the Spring Drive model, featuring deep, intricate patterns that evoke the eternal flow of time, akin to the celestial cycles of the universe. Through the case back, the movements, adorned with decorations inspired by the rich nature of Shizukuishi and Shinshu, the respective manufacturing locations, are visible. The "Caliber 9SA5" features the "Shizukuishi river finishing," inspired by the gentle ripples of the Shizukuishi River, while the "Caliber 9RA2" showcases the "Shinshu frost finishing," representing the frost-covered trees seen in the Shinshu region during the harsh winter.
