For over a century, Longines has led the world of watchmaking as a pioneer in high-frequency technology. Its origins trace back to 1910, when the company patented a 5Hz (10 vibrations per second) stopwatch capable of measuring 1/10th of a second, playing a crucial role in sports timing. By 1916, they had enhanced timing accuracy to 1/100th of a second, solidifying their position as a leader in precision timing technology.

 

The application to wristwatches occurred in 1959 with Caliber 360, developed for observatory chronometer competitions. This was the first high-frequency movement for a wristwatch, showcasing Longines' technical prowess to the world. In 1967, the "Ultra-Chron" was born as the first model to apply this high-precision technology for general consumers.

 

The diver's watch equipped with a high-frequency movement, which appeared the following year in 1968, has already been revived as the new generation "Ultra-Chron" in 2022. Therefore, with the revival of this classic model, the lineage of Longines' high-frequency technology has expanded.

 

The "Ultra-Chron Classic" revived this time brings the design of the original dress watch into the modern era. Its domed silver sunray dial elegantly transforms light, while the applied silver-polished indices and hands maintain an authentic beauty. The trapezoidal date display at 3 o'clock uses the vintage font from the first model, showing respect for the original design.

 

 

The case is made of stainless steel and is available in two sizes: 37mm and 40mm. With a thickness of less than 11mm, it achieves an elegant, slim profile suitable for a dress watch. The 37mm model, in particular, closely resembles the original 35mm case in its vintage size, retaining a strong sense of the era.

 

The stainless steel bracelet, inspired by the characteristic grooved pattern of the original model, features alternating satin and polished finishes for both beauty and comfort. The micro-adjustment enabled by the double safety folding clasp ensures optimal fit and smooth operation. Additionally, the black leather strap model is equipped with a heritage pin buckle that reflects the design codes of the period.

 

The movement is Longines' exclusive Caliber L836.6. This high-frequency mechanism, first introduced in 2022, operates at 36,000 vibrations per hour (5Hz), just like the original model. However, its internal design incorporates cutting-edge technology, with a silicon balance spring and new materials achieving superior anti-magnetic properties that exceed the ISO764 standard.

 

The advantage of a high-frequency movement lies in its ability to quickly restore accuracy even when affected by external disturbances such as shocks, positional changes, or acceleration. The automatic movement, boasting approximately 52 hours of power reserve, combines the high precision of the historic "Ultra-Chron" with modern reliability.

 

The "Ultra-Chron Classic" embodies the brand's belief that "true innovation is built upon a solid foundation of proven performance and excellence."
