The First Caliber 9F to Feature a Fourth Hand
Grand Seiko, an icon of Japanese watchmaking, has been loved both domestically and internationally since its inception in 1960. Seiko, which pioneered the quartz watch in 1969, introduced the Caliber 9F movement exclusively for Grand Seiko in 1993.
This movement is equipped with a high-torque "Twin-Pulse Control Motor" that allows it to drive long, thick hands, which were impossible with previous quartz movements, as well as a "Backlash Auto-Adjust Mechanism" to reduce seconds hand flutter and an "Instant Date-Changing Mechanism" for instantaneous calendar switching. It is characterized by its ability to achieve both accuracy and legibility, as well as beauty.
To mark the quarter-century since its birth, a new caliber, "9F86," has been developed for the Caliber 9F, featuring a fourth hand for the first time as a GMT function.
With the GMT function, when switching to the time of a different time zone, the hour hand can be adjusted independently without stopping the watch, allowing for corrections without losing the high accuracy of a quartz watch. Furthermore, a "4-Axis Independent Guide Structure" has been developed, allowing each hand to rotate smoothly without interfering with each other on the axes to which the four hands are attached.
The "Sport Collection Caliber 9F 25th Anniversary Limited Model" is released in a worldwide limited edition of only 800 pieces. This sporty model features a metallic charcoal gray dial with vibrant yellow accents.
The dial features an all-over embossed "GS" and "9F" pattern, inspired by the unique "Quartz Mark" that adorned watches as a symbol of high accuracy in the 1970s and 80s. Additionally, it incorporates special specifications unique to a limited edition model, such as a specially accurate movement that enhances the timekeeping accuracy of the Caliber 9F86, which normally has an annual deviation of ±10 seconds, to ±5 seconds. As proof of this, a gold-colored five-pointed star shines at the 6 o'clock position.
The regular models, scheduled for release in January of next year, will be available in two dial colors: black and navy.
