Solving the Problem of "Not Knowing the Time in the Dark"

Founded in 1951, Mondaine is the official Swiss Railways watch brand sold in 25 countries and loved by users worldwide. Its popular "stop2go" series features a unique function found on all Swiss Railways station clocks: the second hand completes a revolution in 58 seconds, pauses at the 12 o'clock position for approximately two seconds, then the minute hand advances by one minute, after which the second hand begins to move.

Mondaine spent over four years developing the movement and in 2013 released the "stop2go" model incorporating this function.

The new backlight technology retains the "stop2go" function while addressing the everyday issue of "not knowing the time in the dark." By applying luminous paint (Super-LumiNova) to the back of the hour and minute hands, the white dial reflects light during the day, charging the luminous paint. At night, the charged light reflects off the dial, making the outer edges of the hour and minute hands appear to glow. This allows the time to be checked even in the dark, without compromising the simple, highly legible design of the official Swiss Railways watch.
