Its Vintage Look, Preserved!
First introduced in the mid-1950s, the "Marlin" was, unusually for its time, equipped with water, dust, and shock resistance. In an era when water-resistant watches were not yet common, it was named "Marlin" to emphasize this feature.
This model also became an instant hit thanks to TIMEX's famous TV commercials, which were widely broadcast in America at the time. The sensational ads showed the "Marlin" attached to a motorboat's propeller; after the boat, watch and all, sped through the water, the "Marlin" was still working perfectly, ticking away the time!
Now, after 60 years, the "Marlin" has been revived through a planning initiative at TIMEX headquarters. It retains the hand-wound movement of the original, along with a slim case and the sophisticated design of yesteryear. Its style, a simple embodiment of mid-century functional beauty, remains perfectly relevant today.
While the original used plated metal, the reissue features a more robust stainless steel case. Paired with an embossed calfskin strap resembling lizard leather, it evokes the feel of a dress watch. While preserving the original appearance, the internal modern movement ensures reliability and eliminates concerns about malfunctions.
