A Sport Model Inspired by the GT-R's Striking "Wangan Blue"

Since its inception in 1960, Grand Seiko has pursued and achieved the essence of watchmaking—precision, beauty, and legibility—at the highest level, constantly striving for advancement. Among the brand's offerings, this collaboration watch with the "NISSAN GT-R 50th Anniversary" model, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the "NISSAN GT-R," emerges from the brand's most iconic sporty ceramic models.

The GT-R model is a limited-time vehicle, available until the end of March 2020, paying homage to the racing specification of the original "Skyline 2000GT-R." Grand Seiko chose "Wangan Blue," a color scheme primarily featuring blue to evoke the car's striking performance, as its design code.

From this "Wangan Blue," a hybrid structure of "Grand Seiko Blue" ceramic and Bright Titanium was born. The hard ceramic protects the case from scratches, while the combination with lightweight Bright Titanium ensures excellent wearability. The "white" reminiscent of the stripes found on historic Nissan racing cars is expressed through a crocodile strap and a white-silver dial. This harmonizes with the blue case, creating a new, open, and unprecedented sports model.



The movement powering this watch is Seiko's proprietary "Spring Drive" system. Through the see-through case back, adorned with its 20th-anniversary logo, one can admire the GT-R logo patch (made of 18K yellow gold) as a testament to this collaboration. Furthermore, the Caliber 9R96 used in this model features a stopwatch function. It is the most fitting "engine" to celebrate the anniversary years of the supercar "NISSAN GT-R" and Spring Drive.
