F.P. Journe's Design Equation Under Scrutiny: The Larger Case (1)
F.P. Journe, a watch brand committed to crafting a limited number of timepieces annually for watch enthusiasts. This year, two new models were unveiled: the larger "Octa Divine" and the "Elegante" featuring an electromechanical movement.

The "Octa Divine" Now Available in a 42mm Model
While F.P. Journe is known for its off-center dials, the "Octa Divine" marks the first model in the brand's collection to feature centrally placed hour and minute hands. This year, the "Octa Divine," previously offered in a 38.40mm case, has been scaled up to a 42mm model.
The larger case also enhances legibility. The hour markers on the outer edge of the dial are prominent, while the big date, moon phase, and power reserve indicators are slightly more compact, creating a cleaner, easier-to-read display. Additionally, the seconds hand, previously housed within an sub-dial, has been redesigned as a disc.
The legibility offered by the white dial and blued steel hands for displaying the time is exquisite, revealing a new aesthetic in F.P. Journe's design. Naturally, this beautiful timepiece's dial also bears the inscription of F.P. Journe's philosophy, "Invenit et Fecit" (Latin for "Invented and Made").

The "Elegante 48mm" Electromechanical Watch
The "Elegante," originally released as a ladies' watch, has now been enlarged to 48mm, making it a timepiece suitable for a wide range of wearers, both male and female.
The Caliber 1210 movement, housed within, is an electromechanical movement that F.P. Journe spent eight years developing. The movement, produced in his own workshops, incorporates electronic components developed by Swiss engineers. This fusion of traditional Swiss mechanical watchmaking with electronics ensures high precision for extended periods. It requires no time adjustment for approximately 8 to 10 years of daily use, or about 18 years when not in use.
Furthermore, after the watch is removed for 30 minutes, a motion detector, visible at the 4:30 position, senses the inactivity and puts the mechanical parts of the movement into a sleep state. Meanwhile, the microprocessor continues to keep time. The moment the watch is picked up, the motion detector senses this, and the hour and minute hands advance to the current time, resuming their ticking. This timepiece fully leverages the strengths of both cutting-edge electronics and traditional Swiss mechanics.
