The Dedication of a Fashion Maison
"Alfred Dunhill" is a luxury brand for men that embodies the dandyism, sophistication, and humor of the British gentleman. The founder, Alfred Dunhill, entered the business world in 1893, taking over his father's saddlery shop in London at the young age of 21. As the 20th century dawned, he ventured beyond his father's domain into new genres. It was the dawn of motorization. While it was still limited to the wealthy elite at the time, people were enthusiastic about the new vehicle called the automobile. Dunhill, himself caught up in this fervor, captured this new trend and launched a collection of accessories for the cutting-edge drivers of the era, dubbed "Motorities." This included everything from headlights and horns for cars to driving coats, goggles, dashboard clocks, and picnic sets. Subsequently, the product range expanded dramatically, evolving into today's leading luxury goods manufacturer.
Alfred Dunhill's first involvement with watches is said to have been with clocks for car dashboards. And the iconic model of Dunhill watches, the rectangular "Facet Watch," which continues to this day, first appeared in 1936.
More recently, based on the spirit of "Motorities," many will recall the 2005 models: one with a power reserve indicator designed like a fuel gauge, and a chronograph with two subdials arranged like goggle lenses.chronographTheir sophisticated and humorous designs remain fresh even today. However, no new watch models had been released since 2007, a regrettable situation that continued until the 2011 S.I.H.H., where, to our delight, two new watch models made their debut after a long absence.
One is a new addition to the classic Facet series, featuring a gray mother-of-pearl dial and a dark gray shagreen leather strap. The other is the "Tuxedo Watch," designed for wear with black tie, featuring black diamonds and black lacquer on the dial.
Both models prominently showcase Dunhill's signature style. We invite you to enjoy the unique dedication of a fashion maison, distinct from watches made by dedicated watchmakers.
Black Diamond "Classic" Watch
Expressing Dunhill's Dandyism with the Brilliance of Black Diamonds!
A classic round formal watch designed to be worn with black tie (tuxedo). The dial is black lacquer, uniquely adorned with crushed black diamonds across its entire surface, except for the small seconds subdial. Its matte brilliance creates a refined elegance befitting a gentleman. The strap is, of course, matte black alligator. The dial and crown feature two lines, inspired by the "ll" in "dunhill," one of Dunhill's icons. The movement is the highly regarded Caliber 896 from Jaeger-LeCoultre, also used in the "Master Grand Ultra Slim."
Automatic winding, 38mm stainless steel case, alligator strap, with date. Price to be determined. Expected arrival: October-November.
