Aesthetic Pursued Through "Accurate Time"

The world's first quartz watch was born in 1969. The "Seiko Quartz Astron," commercialized by Seiko, marked its beginning. This year, 2009, a limited edition model has been released from "Grand Seiko" to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the world's first quartz watch.

It is equipped with the high-performance quartz movement "Caliber 9F." This movement has been heavily utilized exclusively for "Grand Seiko" since 1993. It features functions not found in ordinary quartz watches, such as a "twin-pulse controlled motor" with approximately twice the torque of a standard motor to drive long and thick hands, a "high-speed rapid advance mechanism" that switches at 1/2000th of a second just after midnight, and a "backlash auto-adjust mechanism" that reduces second-hand deviation and trembling by incorporating a hairspring, thereby achieving a beautiful second-hand movement. These features not only ensure high performance but also refine the aesthetic conveyed by the hand's movement.

For the 40th anniversary model, the accuracy has been further refined from the standard ±10 seconds per year of the 9F quartz movement to ±5 seconds per year, pursuing "accurate time" even more.

"Seiko Quartz Watch 40th Anniversary Limited Edition" Quartz (equipped with Caliber 9F), SS case & bracelet, limited to 500 pieces, ¥262,500

In terms of design, 40 crystal marks, used in the early 1970s, are placed on the dial, and details such as the index and the rectangular minute markers of the "Seiko Quartz Astron" are inherited, showing attention to detail throughout.

This is a fitting limited edition model to reflect on the history of Japan's proud quartz movement.
