Colored Stones Add Radiance: Onyx, Turquoise, and More

Gold beads, used since the 1920s, are an integral part of Van Cleef & Arpels' heritage. The "Perlée" collection, inspired by this iconic Maison motif, was born in 2008. For the new "Perlée Couleur," six stones—yellow gold, onyx, malachite, tiger's eye, carnelian, and turquoise—add their brilliance. These are feminine and graceful jewelry pieces where unique colored stones enhance the bright and feminine appeal of the gold beads with their sparkle.

Carnelian, with its reddish-orange hue, is primarily sourced from Brazil, known for its deep, uniform color. This stone was considered a symbol of life, adorning the burial garments of queens as early as 3000 BC. Turquoise, with its unique color reminiscent of the sea and sky, is traditionally associated with tolerance and friendship. The pieces use American-sourced turquoise, selected for its consistent blue tones. Malachite, with its deep green color featuring alternating dark and light bands, was believed to protect children and travelers and was historically worn as an amulet.

Tiger's eye, named for its alternating brown and yellow stripes resembling a cat's eye, is primarily sourced from Australia and is known as the "all-seeing stone." Roman soldiers are said to have worn it for protection in battle. Onyx, with a legend tracing its origin to Venus's fingernails, is mainly sourced from Brazil and is characterized by its jet-black color and mirror-like reflective surface.

Malachite, tiger's eye, and onyx adorn rings in yellow gold, while carnelian graces a pink gold ring, and turquoise enhances a white gold ring.
