The new RM023 from 2009 is first distinguished by its asymmetrical Roman numerals set in sapphire crystal. The crown features a ring of Alcryn (thermoplastic rubber) with a special engraving, and the watch is clad in an elegant exterior that echoes the intricate and magnificent mechanism of its skeletonized movement.
The case profile is a tonneau shape measuring 45.0 mm in height and 37.8 mm in width, which can be considered an intermediate size for Richard Mille. However, its thickness is kept to 11.45 mm, positioning it as a unisex model that guarantees refined beauty and comfortable wearability.
In parallel with Formula 1, where the chassis and engine are developed in balance, all components are manufactured to meet extremely stringent requirements. The case manufacturing, which requires 202 steps, is impressive, but it is also noteworthy that the movement is screwed in with four titanium screws without being cased. This unique floating structure minimizes the adverse effects of external shocks and vibrations on the movement.
The movement is the Caliber RM005 S. While its functions are relatively simple, comprising only hours, minutes, seconds, and date display, it is equipped with a variable inertia rotor that allows the winding efficiency of the mainspring to be adjusted based on the owner's usage. High-tech fields are actively incorporated, such as the use of a tungsten and cobalt alloy for the rotor weight and synthetic ceramic for the ball bearings.
Furthermore, the two barrels are equipped with a special system that reduces friction and wear, ensuring a constant supply of power to the movement. By paying meticulous attention to the rotor and winding mechanism, energy is supplied uniformly to ensure high precision.
