The next-generation quartz, refined by modern technology. The story behind its evolution | LONGINES

LONGINES

Very High Precision. The Title
Guaranteeing Supreme Accuracy, as a Self-Contained Timepiece

This model represents a "bold comeback with great ambition" by the Swiss against American and Japanese competition. After all, for simply knowing the exact time, smartwatches, radio-controlled watches, and GPS watches have the advantage. The American contingent, gathered in Silicon Valley, are behind smartwatches, while the Japanese excel in radio-controlled and GPS watches. So why quartz, you might ask? It's not just any quartz. If you can't access a network, or if you can't catch standard radio waves or GPS signals, all you're left with is the accuracy of a bare quartz movement.

Authentically Styled, Function-Oriented Analog Quartz

LONGINES is a prestigious Swiss watchmaker, renowned for its tradition and elegance.

The brand's strength lies in its close relationship with ETA, the largest movement supplier in Switzerland. Through this collaboration, Longines maintains a movement development capability akin to that of a manufacture.

However, this is hardly surprising. Today's ETA is a conglomerate of several movement manufacturers, and historically, Longines entrusted its accumulated expertise in movements, dating back to the pocket watch era, to ETA to share within the Swatch Group (then SMH).

Indeed, over 100 ETA staff are currently based at Longines' headquarters in Saint-Imier, exclusively developing for the brand.

Longines' ability to deliver high-quality Swiss watchmaking to as many wrists as possible worldwide is now unstoppable. In fact, at BASELWORLD 2017, amidst a challenging industry climate, only a handful of brands, led by Longines, unveiled completely original new calibers.

The new "Conquest V.H.P.", which Longines has already begun delivering, is a remarkable achievement, boasting the highest accuracy in watchmaking history.

V.H.P. stands for Very High Precision, and the "Conquest V.H.P." represents a top-tier level of accuracy that even Japanese manufacturers, known for high-precision quartz, cannot easily replicate, even with special tuning.

Furthermore, the "Conquest V.H.P." offers excellent cost performance due to mass production, making it a superior choice that will impress even seasoned watch enthusiasts.

An annual accuracy of ±5 seconds. Compared to the typical ±20 seconds per month for standard quartz, the "Conquest V.H.P." caliber offers significantly higher precision. This is due to a built-in device that detects temperature variations affecting quartz and calculates corrections.

Additionally, this caliber features a GPD (Gear Position Detection) system that automatically resets the hands if it detects shocks or exposure to magnetism. Even without such influences, it performs automatic corrections every night at 3 AM. If the hands stop due to a low battery, it retains accurate time information for up to six months and can reset the hands correctly upon power restoration. It also boasts a long-life battery and a perpetual calendar that accounts for leap years, offering exceptional usability.

For simply knowing the accurate time, one could rely on standard radio waves, GPS signals, or network synchronization. Developing a smartwatch would likely be effortless for Longines. However, their decision to pursue accuracy by evolving quartz movements stems from a specific reason.

The pride of a traditional, mainstream Swiss watchmaker.

Longines embraces its responsibility as a watchmaker and pursues the romance of creating a timepiece that can accurately keep time independently, without relying on external services like networks or radio signals.

Beneath an exceptionally authentic design that conceals a passionate spirit, lies a cool, restrained elegance.
