Farewell to the Charisma of Technopop: A Festival in Tribute to Toshio Nakanishi
A festival, "THANK YOU ORIGATO Toshio Nakanishi a.k.a. TYCOON TO$H Fest!!!," will be held on Thursday, April 13th, at SuperDeluxe in Roppongi, serving as a memorial for Toshio Nakanishi (known for PLASTICS, MELON, SKYLAB, and more), who passed away on February 25th after a six-month battle with illness.
PLASTICS, the technopop band formed by Toshio Nakanishi with Hajime Tachibana, Chica Sato, Masahide Sakuma, and Takeshi Shima in 1976, stood out in the music scene of the time, which was dominated by folk music, and gained a cult following.
He also formed the new wave funk band "MELON" with Chiharu Sato and others in 1981, and the following year launched "WATER MELON GROUP," a side project of MELON, with Yasuomi Tonoda and others.
The edgy works he created through his energetic activities are still spoken of today as timeless masterpieces.
Beyond his music career, he was active in various fields, including as a music producer and illustrator.
The achievements he left behind, opening doors to new cultures one after another, are immense.
The festival will feature performances by Kan Takagi, Keigo Oyamada, Yoshinori Hayashi, Tsuru Onishi, Kuni Sugimoto, Linda dada, momo, and "Diamond Heads," a new copy band (?) of Plastics joined by Takeshi Shima and Hajime Tachibana.
Additionally, artists such as Taiji Sato of Theater Brook, Maki Nomiya + NOEMI, DJs Kenichi Aono, Skatething, and Plastic Bomb, and VJ Take Goodman will liven up the venue.
True to his nature, which was always bright and loved lively occasions, it promises to be a night filled with joy, connecting to a hopeful future.
Furthermore, on this day, the analog, CD, and cassette versions of "Children of the Radiation," Nakanishi's final single produced by Makoto Kubota, will be available for the first time exclusively at the venue.
This is also not to be missed by fans.
