"Let's Go, Kyoto." airs its first TV commercial in two and a half years. For its 29th year, the campaign's theme, "Seeking Kyoto's Coolness," is brought to life at Kennin-ji Temple, a first for this CM series.
JR Central has launched its "Let's Go, Kyoto." campaign for its 29th year, starting Saturday, June 25. The TV commercial for summer 2022, the first in two and a half years, features actor佑 Etsushi as the narrator, conveying the charm of "Kyoto in Summer" with Kennin-ji Temple as its setting.
To coincide with the TV commercial broadcast, JR Central is implementing various promotions themed "Seeking Kyoto's Coolness," offering experiences of Kyoto's unique coolness. These include four distinct "coolness" experiences: "Coolness of Shadow," "Coolness of Wind," "Coolness of Water," and "Coolness of the Mysterious."
The "Coolness of Shadow" offers a plan to visit temples renowned for their gardens, such as Kennin-ji, Tenryu-ji, Jojakko-ji, and Enko-ji, where shadows play a significant role. The "Coolness of Wind" features a special space at four temples and shrines where pinwheels and wind chimes adorned with Yuzen patterns are temporarily installed, allowing visitors to feel the Kyoto breeze more intensely through sight and sound. The "Coolness of Water" presents content that captures the coolness created by "greenery" and "water," such as lotus leaves adorning Kyoto in early to mid-summer, and vibrant green leaves and moss. The "Coolness of the Mysterious" involves a one-day-only "Ghost Story Train" event at Kennin-ji Temple, inviting Mr. Daichi Miki, also known as the "Ghost Story Monk," aboard the popular sightseeing train "Hiei."
This campaign offers a chilling experience, listening to ghost stories on a summer night.
Additionally, limited-time special products are available in conjunction with these campaigns. Keep an eye on this campaign that allows you to enjoy a new "Summer in Kyoto."

About the TV Commercial
This CM, the first for "Let's Go, Kyoto." in approximately two and a half years, features Kennin-ji Temple as its first-ever setting. The temple's main garden, Chōon-tei, is a dry landscape Zen garden with a central Sannin-seki (three-stone formation), a Zazen-seki (meditation stone) to the east, and maple trees arranged around it, creating a serene four-sided view. The CM conveys the charm of "Kyoto in Summer" through visuals of the "coolness unique to Kyoto," viewed from the shadows of the small study overlooking the beautiful Chōon-tei garden from any angle.
