The Charm of the "Izai Izai Nara" Commercial Shoot Locations
The fourth installment of the "Izai Izai Nara" campaign focuses on the Nishi-no-kyo and Heijo Palace Site area. Toshodai-ji Temple, Yakushi-ji Temple, and the Heijo Palace Site within this area are registered as World Heritage sites, forming part of the "Cultural Monuments of Ancient Nara." This year marks the 25th anniversary of their World Heritage inscription. It is a place where one can feel the splendor of the Silk Road's endpoint and the traces of historical figures, even in the present day. Actor Ryohei Suzuki (a certified Level 1 World Heritage expert) is deeply moved by the unwavering spirit and grandeur of history spanning over a thousand years.
■ Toshodai-ji Temple
Founded by the venerable Ganjin during the Nara period, this temple (a World Heritage site) is one of the representative ancient temples of the Nishi-no-kyo area. Many of its original buildings from the Nara period still stand within the grounds, offering a rare glimpse into the architecture of that era. The Kondo hall houses national treasures, including the Thousand-armed Kannon Bodhisattva statue, which captivated Ryohei Suzuki, presenting a breathtaking sight. The statue of Ganjin (a national treasure, seated statue of Ganjin), who was instrumental in its founding, is enshrined in the Goeido hall. While usually on special display only once a year in June for the anniversary of its founding, this year, marking 1,270 years since Ganjin's arrival in Japan, it will also be specially exhibited in the autumn. Don't miss this precious opportunity.
■ Heijo Palace Site
This is the site where the "Heijo Palace," the center of politics and culture in the capital (Heijo-kyo) approximately 1,300 years ago, once stood. Registered as a World Heritage site, visitors can explore the remains and reconstructed buildings, allowing them to contemplate the long history and origins of Japan within this vast space. The park, rich in nature, features facilities for viewing excavated artifacts and historical materials, as well as dining and souvenir shops, inviting leisurely exploration. The sight of the reconstructed buildings illuminated by the setting sun is particularly magical and a must-see.
