The first collaboration item from "FOOD TEXTILE," a food loss reduction project born from the apparel industry, with Ungrid, a casual brand pursuing comfort, is now available from April 15th (Wed).

A collaboration between "FOOD TEXTILE," a project born from the apparel industry to repurpose food waste, and "Ungrid," a casual fashion brand focused on comfort, has yielded a line of tank tops and T-shirts. These items have been available since Wednesday, April 15th, at Ungrid stores and their official online shop. The project is spearheaded by Toyoshima & Co., Ltd. (President: Hanshichi Toyoshima, Nagoya City, Chuo-ku).

Toyoshima & Co., Ltd. has been committed to promoting sustainability in the fashion industry for approximately 30 years, handling environmentally conscious materials. FOOD TEXTILE is a collaborative project involving Toyoshima & Co., Ltd., food-related companies that supply natural colorants, and partner companies that develop products using these fabrics. The project procures ingredients from food companies and farms—such as non-standard produce, vegetable trimmings, and used coffee grounds—that would otherwise be discarded. Dyes are then extracted from the components within these food items for coloring.
Ungrid, the brand collaborating on this collection, aims to empower women to fully embrace their femininity through fashion. Their philosophy centers on pursuing comfort and offering versatile clothing that allows for effortless daily wear, tailored to any occasion, all while encouraging a free-spirited approach to style rooted in casual wear. The dyes used for the T-shirts and tank tops in this release are derived from echinacea (a herb), lettuce, and blueberries, provided by Life Tree Co., Ltd., Kewpie Corporation, and Horiuchi Fruit Farm, respectively.

FOOD TEXTILE is a project dedicated to repurposing food waste within the fashion industry. It involves procuring non-standard produce, vegetable trimmings, and other ingredients from food-related companies and farms that would otherwise be discarded. These materials are then processed to extract natural dyes, which are used to color fabrics. Beyond developing its own product lines, FOOD TEXTILE collaborates with various domestic fashion brands to produce and market items, thereby addressing the issue of food loss from the apparel sector. Currently, the project partners with over 15 food-related companies, agricultural entities, and farms, establishing a sustainable system that connects different industries.
