Ginza Tsutaya Books hosts "Sparkling Pen Fair" featuring beautiful nibs made of jewels and glass

Ginza Tsutaya Books' stationery section will host the "Sparkling Pen Fair" from Friday, November 8th to Sunday, November 10th, 2019, a three-day event dedicated to showcasing the allure of beautiful pen nibs.

An Event Featuring Exquisite Pens

In recent times, the advancement of digital devices has led to a decline in the use of writing instruments.

Tsutaya Books believes that the significance of a pen extends beyond its mere function of "writing." The diverse designs, the elegance of their styles, and the way each pen alters the writing experience and the expression of characters offer a richness that digital tools cannot replicate.

This event will feature a curated selection of exquisite writing instruments, with a focus on the "KEMMA" series from Akita Kenma Kogyo in Akita Prefecture and new color glass pens from Kawanishi Glass in Niseko, Hokkaido. These are rare items that can only be purchased directly at this event in Tokyo.

Akita Kenma Kogyo's "KEMMA" has achieved a first in fountain pen history by incorporating jewels such as synthetic rubies and sapphire glass into its design. These are premium fountain pens where all components, from the nib to the cap, are manufactured within Akita Prefecture.

Additionally, Kawanishi Glass will debut its "New Color Glass Pens." While most glass pens have 8 to 10 grooves, Kawanishi Glass features 12 evenly spaced grooves that ensure excellent ink absorption, allowing for approximately 500 characters to be written on a single dip. The smooth writing experience, which defies the typical image of glass pens, is a hallmark of Kawanishi Glass.

Over these three days, attendees have a unique opportunity to select pens while engaging in direct conversation with the creators themselves.

A workshop for creating original ink will also be held.

The ink blending method is a unique technique born from Kyoto's dyeing culture. Participants can enjoy learning the fundamentals of color mixing. You will take home one bottle (15ml) of ink suitable for fountain pens, glass pens, and calligraphy.
