Introducing "KAMIHITOE," a Japanese-made brand utilizing "kamifu" (paper cloth).
There is a material called "kamifu" (paper cloth), woven with traditional Japanese washi paper as the weft and cotton or silk as the warp. It is characterized by its lightness, high antibacterial properties, and unique texture.
KAMIHITOE, a brand that harnesses the appeal of kamifu, has been born. They offer business bags and tableware with stylish designs reminiscent of origami. A pop-up store is also being held at Seibu Shibuya until November 30th.
KAMIHITOE's Kamifu, Made with Mino Washi Paper
KAMIHITOE's kamifu uses Mino washi paper, a craft passed down through generations. By twisting the carefully selected materials and using specific manufacturing methods, a durability is achieved that a single sheet of washi paper cannot possess. The washi paper is cut into 2mm wide strips, twisted into yarn, and then woven with cotton yarn as the warp.
Kamifu, which also excels in deodorizing, antibacterial, and quick-drying properties, has been used in Japan for over 300 years to create various products. It is voluminous yet lightweight, with a refreshing feel similar to linen and a smooth, pleasant touch.
KAMIHITOE utilizes these characteristics of kamifu, crafting items such as bags with unique designs that evoke origami. The kamifu is treated with a water-repellent finish, ensuring peace of mind even when exposed to rain or water.
