SoftBank Commerce & Service Corp. began sales of the programming education robot "codey rocky" from Makeblock Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: China, CEO: Jasen Wang) on Thursday, July 19, 2018.

In addition to traditional programming learning, "codey rocky" is a robot that enables next-generation programming education, mimicking IoT devices by incorporating AI fundamentals such as image and voice recognition, and displaying results based on information acquired from the internet. It uses visual programming software based on Scratch, which is easy to operate, allowing users to acquire fundamental programming skills without specialized knowledge.

It also supports "Python," a programming language currently drawing attention for AI and robot development. Visual programs created with Scratch can be easily converted into Python program code, enabling users to learn Python as well.

"codey rocky" is used by combining two parts: the controller, "codey," equipped with numerous advanced electronic modules and expressive LEDs, and "rocky," a vehicle that carries "codey" and can move freely while detecting obstacles and colors. Users can easily and enjoyably interact with AI by controlling "codey rocky" with voice recognition, guessing ages through facial recognition, or displaying content on the LEDs that matches facial expressions. Furthermore, by connecting to the internet, it can perform programming akin to IoT devices, such as acquiring weather forecasts and displaying them on the LEDs.
